Setting the Scene

Burning Road is made by Toka, a new French developer and it's their first game. Something that I'm getting used to in PlayStation games is the fact that they aren't as good as promised. This racing game almost slipped into that category, as you will see!

Graphics

The graphics are lovely and weather conditions like rain and snow are great too. Racing is pretty fast and there only a few glitches. This is the strong side of this game.

Sounds and Effects

The racing sounds are above acceptable and really get you in the mood. The music is more than O.K. if you like hard-rock. Something that I found to be a little bit annoying, is that the English voices are spoken by somebody who's a Frenchman. It's a minor problem but it can be noticed.

Playability

The control is different from other racing games and you'll have to get used to it. Once you get the hang of it, it can make the game too easy. It's a lot more fun with A Mad Catz steering wheel when racing in automatic mode.

The major problem with Burning Road is the lastability : There are only three tracks included and they are quite easy to finish. There are also only four cars to drive. Although each has it's own specialities they are far too similar.

Ridge Racer had no more tracks but at least they were addictive. This game could have been a lot better but let's not forget that it's their first game and they should improve.

Value for Money

Good graphics, good animation, good sounds and good music if you like hard-rock. Not enough tracks and cars. If you don't know what racing game to buy because you're tired of RR, RRR, Wipeout,... and you're a racing freak, then check it out.

As a racing fan I have to admit to liking this game, but Tom is right - its a little on the easy side. It will appeal to the younger gamers who may find games like Rage Racer a little too tough.
