Setting the Scene

Flush with the sucess of Alien Trilogy, Fox are now turning to another money spinning movie tie-ins to repeat the formula. John McClean stars in this three game pack which aims to cover the plots within each of the blockbuster films

Genre

The first offering is DIE HARD THE MOVIE and is a 3rd person perspective shoot-out in a 3D environment. DIE HARDER is a polygon based shooting gallery just like Virtua cop. DIE HARD WITH A VENGENCE is a 3D driving game in which you race against time to save New York.

Graphics

Die Hards graphics seem to use a mixure of effects as seen in both Loaded and Lone Soldier. The scenary folds out behind you to prevent obscuring your view. The 3D environment also scrolls very smoothly, with attention being given to background detail. Even the saved hostages can be seen bleeding as they make their escape.

Die Harder uses polygons for extra detail and the game also features some nice motion captured footage as the felled terrorists clutch their stomaches and twist in agony as they spray blood all over the nearby windows. Die Harder allows you to destroy virtually every surface that the game has to offer.

Die Hard With A Vengence is outstanding and is the best of the three games on offer. Rumour has it that the footage used in the game was taken from hours of video camera action recorded by the software team as they drove through the locations in New York that were used in the film. Bombs have been placed around the city, leaving McClane to drive the streets seeking and disarming the devices, scattering polygon New Yorkers who are crossing the road. You are in a race against time and should you not disarm everything in time, you will be engulfed in a massive explosion.

Sounds and Effects

The Soundtrack is of the highest quality. Great music, superb samples and explemplary effects all combine to make Trilogy a top audio experience.

Playability

Well although you wouldnt say that Fox could have sold all three games seperately at full price, due to the fact that the longevity factors within each game are not massive, combined into the trilogy, this represents excellent value for money: 24 Levels of shootout action. A shooting gallery to rival Virtua Cop. A fast paced driving game. The addition of the Lightgun will almost certainly add to the Playability of the Die Harder section.

The shooting gallery section is a frantic, non stop blast that is a little tricky to control with the joypad. Action takes place around the airport that is over-run with terrorists.

The shoot-em-up levels are mission based with John McClane running around amulti storey office block.

The driving section involves a timed high speed chase through a busy network of streets with the object to disarm a bomb.

Value for Money

THREE games for the price of ONE. Great in-game tunes. Fast moving graphics. Add an Enforcer light gun to add to the fun.

I enjoy Vengence still, but the other two are now tiresome, still I can`t complain, at three for the price of one at least one came up trumps.
