Setting the Scene:

Rules and yellow flags are for pantywaists! Bolt down your recliner in preparation for 989 Sports' NFL Xtreme 2, where mayhem and frantic football energy is caged in a gridiron featuring a no-holds-barred 5-on-5 clash. Talk the talk: more than 20 NFL players including Michael Strahan, Ray Buchanan and Ted Washington were recorded delivering taunting audio. That means Antonio Freeman lets you know when you've been burned, Jessie Tuggle adds insult to over-the-middle hits and John Randle gives you an ear full after a wild sack. Win, lose-who cares? More important, who had the best stick and who talked the best noise?

Sound and Vision:

The stereo separation and sound effects are excellent. The game sounds are realistic with good crunching sounds on tackles and tearing sounds when the jerseys get ripped off players. You hear the players grunt when they are picked up and tossed in the extra activity after plays. There are quite a few players whose voices have been recorded for "trash talk" which happens after good plays.

The players are rendered using a relatively high polygon count for the PSX and they are generally good, but you still see the rough blocky edges on the close up views. I think the graphics could have been a touch better. The game moves fast and the graphics are quick and shows no choppyness during game play. The graphics are mostly for the on-field activities with a very simple stadium background that changes little.
