Setting the Scene:

Welcome to NHL Rock the Rink a knockdown drag-out, no-holds-barred hockey (and I use the word "hockey" loosely) game. Step right up and body-slam your opponent to the ice, feed him a fistful of leather, or drop him like a rock with a wicked clothesline tackle. Best of all, none of these moves will land you in the penalty box. NHL Rock the Rink delivers hockey like you've never seen it before. It's 3-on-3, fast-paced arcade action with no rules and tons of scoring. So what are you waiting for…Get on the ice and get it on!

Sound and Vision:

The game sounds are realistic and can clearly be heard over the rock background music. The soundtrack shows credits from several groups including the Hanson Brothers. The Hanson Brothers?!? Aren't these the teenybopper group? Nope, that's just Hanson. This is a Canadian group that has too similar of a name. The soundtrack is good rocking music (it makes you more certain that this isn't the teenybopper Hanson), but the game sounds come through loud and clear. You hear the sound of skates, slapshots and hits. There is an announcer in the background as well.

Initially there are only a few rinks to skate on, but progressive play will open up several more. The main difference between the arenas are the background views as the rink stays essentially the same no matter where you play. However, the home team logo always appears on center ice and is dependant on where you play.

The graphics are very good and there are no problems following the puck, or determining where the active player is. If the active player is off the screen, an arrow points to where he is so you know where he is and to allow you to switch active players and know who it is.

The players are obviously rendered with polygons, and the viewing angles are noticeable, but not ridiculous. Generally the animation is very good. Movement is fluid and visuals are clear as your player skates around the rink with the number on the jersey being easy to read. So you always know exactly who the player in control is.
