Setting the Scene

The Playstation has produced some pretty good fighting games, but many seem to hold your interest for a only short period of time. Taito believe that they have come up with a game containing all of the Playability of TEKKEN2 but far more longevity.

Previously appearing in the arcades, this game retains all of the fantastic action and animation that made it such a hit.

The character graphics show little sign of polygon pop-up and each of the fighters has a similar array of moves to that of TEKKEN but with the addition of more spectacular special moves.

Sounds and Effects

The background music is simply incredible, serving to keep you in a fighting mood. encouragement is shouted out by each of the characters to keep your adrenaline levels at a maximum level.

Sound effects are also brilliant. Many of the effects leave you feeling as though you are actually in amongst the action its-self. The sounds of projectiles flying past you and both wind and fire attacks leave the hair standing upright on the back of your neck!

Playability

Players can choose from ARCADE, STORY, VERSUS or TRAINING modes.
The eight playable characters have all got their own individual fighting styles:
Burn - An 18 year old male with mastery of fire. He is one of the cool guys to use in the game
Emilio - A 14 year old Male or female ( We can`t distinguish the difference ). He / She is an angel and her special move has to be seen to be believed.
Wendy - A 15 year old female who looks as if she works in a circus. Her powers are that of the wind and her stage is the best in terms of music and graphics.
Sonia - A feisty 17 year old female with a thing for electricity.
Brad - He`s 24 and is somewhat similar to Magneto. With powers of magnetism, he can summon rocks to his defense and offense. His special is also somewhat cool. ( A dragon`s tail attaches itself to you and drives you to the ground )
Wong - A martial arts exponent who`s 34. He possesses the ability of teleportation and can summon a sword at will.
Gates - A mean looking cyborg who wields massive power. His attacks are all but devastating. Get trapped by him and you`re as good as dead.
In a 3d limited environment, fighting takes place in the air and each character has 2 types of moves. Moves that require energy and a series of punches and kicks for close range fighting. The action is frantic and fast-paced as you attempt to avoid your opponent`s attacks, while launching an array of deadly counter punches when they least expect it.

Value for Money

I feel sure that this game will be loved by all fans of the beat-em-up genre. The Flying attacks are simply awesome and add a new twist to this type of game. Its unlikely that this game will be released in the USA, but I can tell you that it is worth every extra dollar that you will pay for the import version.

A nice new angle for beat-em-ups, but in my oppinion, its still not up to the standard of the Tekken series.
