Setting the Scene:

Tony Hawk is known in skateboarding circles as a 'thrashing' God. His exploits in the sport have reached mythical levels, placing consistently on top where ever he competes.

With the growing popularity of extreme games, players have demanded a skateboarding title that truly captures the pure excitement, pumps the adrenaline, and portrays reality.

So choose a board, select your equipment, let go of all your inhibitions and get ready for the ultimate skateboarding experience.

Sound and Vision:

A player would crash and tumble in a realistic manner. An arm would twist behind your head, a leg would whip across, and your head would smack into the ground with blood spurting. It's not an extreme sport for nothing.

The variety of moves were also impressive... 'ollie' off a monster grind, twist and contort your body into various combos from the ramp and then get massive air off the half pipe. . . this game runs at a feverish pace..!

My only problem was that sometimes my players view would be obstructed when an object was supposed to be behind me. But it lasted only a nanosecond so I won't gripe.

Bands like Primus, Goldfinger, Suicidal Tendencies and The Vandals are some of the bands that contributed. The music was a perfect compliment for this type of game (fast and furious).

In-game sounds were very realistic. Everything from the sound of your wheels running over different surfaces, to the ever so familiar thuds of a huge wipe out added greatly to the reality and intensity of the game.

Playability:

Image Loading...       Travel the country and rip through different cities, each new venue requiring a little more skill to master. Tear through the school yards of Miami, fly through the malls of New York and get some serious air in Chicago's Skateboard Park.

With so many things that you can do, you can't just expect to pick it up and kick ass. Oh no, you must learn to time your jumps, quickly perform a combination of difficult tricks and then pull off a perfect landing... or it was all for nothing. Grinding on poles, ramps, and basically anything with an edge is a whole different set of skills. Balance, momentum, and take-off are just some factors involved with a respectable board grind. Expect to fall frequently at first. But once you master the basic skills, the game quickly becomes addictive.

The one player career mode keeps you very involved. You choose from ten professionals from across the world. You select your board and equipment. Multiple tasks have been assigned for each city. Each task will make you use all your skills. Find the letters S-K-A-T-E, destroy appointed objects, score massive points, and find hidden tapes. Do this and you will build your character, unlock new areas, and gain new equipment.

The action is fast and addicting. The skating venues allow nonlinear game play. The options are fun and very entertaining.

Game Options:

This is a 1 disk game for 1 or 2 Players. It is compatible with the standard (digital) joypad and the analog stick controls of the dual shock joypad. Games can be saved via memory card (1 block per save).
