The
NWO is upon us ... for those unaware of this entity, it stands for New World
Order and it is NOT in this game. What it is, is the latest hype generating
scheme in professional wrestling. For those of you who didn't know,
professional wrestling is a form of entertainment that is part soap opera, part
stunt show, and part sport. WCW is the new powerhouse replacing the NWA, and
WWF with promotions like the NWO, Dennis Rodman, and a host of ex NWA, and WWF
wrestlers. That being said, THQ has gone through great lengths to recreate the
wrestling experience on the PlayStation in 3D.

This
game is a 3D/polygon brawler with 15 popular WCW superstars and 60 other
wrestlers. Each wrestler has signature moves and has between 30 to 40
maneuvers.

The
graphics of this game are magnificent! Each arena (10 in all) is superbly
detailed and each wrestler is distinguishably obvious from the player select
screens. The definition of each wrestler is also noticeable with each fighter
sporting its own unique look. Definitely, the most visually appealing/realistic
looking wrestling game on the PlayStation.

Again,
excellent! the only drawback is vocal speech, which in my opinion is not
needed. The crowd noise, was on cue and often led to the outcome of a match by
firing up one of the wrestlers.

Imagine
this scenario: you're tired, and don't have anything left when your opponent
winds up to let you have one on the kisser ... you take a last minute gamble and
grab his wrist, jump over his back and roll him over for a pin. Never before,
has a wrestling game employed counter maneuvers like this game. Each wrestler
is armed with submission and counter holds, and unique turnbuckle maneuvers for
inside and outside the ring attacks.
Each wrestler has the ability to
duck, and jump over attacks which makes this game tons of fun when played with a
friend. The major drawbacks are lack of tag team action or steel cage/royal
rumble (sorry wrong conference) type brawls. Also, there aren't any ringside
managers or weapons like chairs etc. What the game does offer, in terms of
revolutionary game play is create-a-belt which can be wagered against a friend
with a memory card.
Another option is the spirit meter, no longer
will you have to settle for being pinned because your power meter is gone, now
you have to break a person's spirit, and in doing so fire yourself up enough to
execute a special maneuver. This greatly adds to the gameplay of an already
impressive game.

Definitely
a must have for wrestling fans, or anyone who has ever caught themselves
watching the "sport" when nothing else was on (come on, I know you're
out there)
