MASTER
OF MONSTERS Written By: Dennis Miller |
M A S T E R O F M O N S T E R S NEO GENERATION (Playstation Version) A Few Words From A Devoted Fan On March 24th In The Year Of Our Lord 1998 INTRODUCTION ------------ After receiving my copy of Master Of Monsters for the Playstation, I was dismayed to discover that NOBODY had any type of FAQ out for it. I had hoped to find at least a small file containing Japanese To English menu help. But nooooooooooooo. As the #1 MOM fan IN THE WORLD (or so it would appear), I have taken the responsibilty upon myself. Yes, I will once again sacrifice sleep, work, and small animals to further the legacy that is MOM. THE BASICS --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ^.....Triangle Button.....Command Button 1.....Table 2.....Settings TL...Bar Graphs Off 1.....Fighting Animation Toggle TR...Bar Graphs On 2.....Magic Attack Animation Toggle =....Bio 3.....? >....Rename Unit 4.....Monster Fusion Animation Toggle O....Go To Unit 5.....? 6.....? 3.....Save Game 4.....Load Game O.....O Button............The Main "Yes" Button X.....X Button............The Main "No" Button []....Square Button.......Map Positioner Button >.....Start...............Ends Your Turn =.....Select..............No Function TL....Top Left Button.....Takes Cursor To Your Master TR....Top Right Button....Takes Cursor To Your Master BL....Bottom Left Button..No Function BR....Bottom Right Button. No Function When you first start the game in story mode, you will get a "helpful" whore that talks smack to you when you select something for the very first time. She'd be a lot more helpful if she took off her clothes since you cannot understand a word she's saying... When you select your master and hit O, you are confronted with 6 choices: 1.....Move 2.....Attack 3.....Summon 4.....Call 5.....Spells 6.....Items THE COLORS ---------- Blue.....Law Red......Chaos Yellow...Neutral NOTES: ------ One of the ? settings makes the "rear" buttons do stuff like take you to a monster that hasn't moved, then move it for you. There is also a way to make the computer move ALL your monsters for you. When you fuse 2 monsters and get a blue blob, it means that the procedure was a failure (so don't wait around for them to "evolve", they wont... At the end of each level your table appears. Whatever monsters you select are DELETED (not given experience or anything like that), they are DELETED! Your master will replenish his/her magic if they are on a tower. The "flat" towers (square towers) are needed to summon more monsters. They also increase the defense of the monster occupying them. But they WILL NOT replenish a master's magic points. Monsters you can summon on map 1: --------------------------------- Blue.......48/54 HP.....Soldier Blue.......20/22 HP.....Witch Red........48/54 HP.....Barbarian Red........28/32 HP.....Magician Yellow.....38/41 HP.....Amazon Yellow.....34/38 HP.....Sister Yellow.....61/68 HP.....Troll Yellow.....46/48 HP.....Unicorn....Moves far, Good against magic users. Yellow.....xx/xx HP.....Dragon Temple Fusion Results: ---------------------- Dragon + Unicorn......Law Creature, Level 10, 61 HP, 21 INT, 41 AG, 7 Speed (This far-moving guy is great for killing unicorns.) Unicorn + Magician....Slightly Smarter Magician (Okay I Suppose) Knight + Fire Dragon.. NOTES: ------ Make sure to milk the first few maps for experience points. This means using EVERY turn up until the very last one! Make SURE to get your master experienced. (By use of magic attacks, and face to face combat -- he's a bad mutha.) As he gains levels, he is able to summon more powerful creatures. This pretty much makes creature advancing useless, but you will need a few creatures to support your master on the front lines. Map 2 is especially useful for fusing monsters (map 1 is useless because you cannot summon any monsters that can be successfully fused.) On map 1, there is a hidden tower located 7 squares to your right, then 1 square upper right (from your original master's position.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAVES: ------ 1) The graphics, though not as advanced as they could be, are still light years (or 9 years) better than the Genesis version. 2) Fusing monsters. This is just too cool. Now if I could just fuse my girlfriend and my PC... 3) Lots of new magic spells! (Now if I could just read Japanese...) RANTS: ------ *) The Japanese language. Get with it! The universal language is ENGLISH. 1) You can't turn off the damn music (I'd rather listen to my Genesis MOM mp3s, or to somebody scratching a chaulk board. 2) The waiting. Damn but Playstation games suck when it comes to loading. Turn on another TV or something because you'll be waiting A LOT. Over ONE whole minute just to save/load a game! They could have at LEAST put a "force-save" option so that it would NOT wait, then ask you where to save and make you wait some more. Hell, saving & loading sucks so much that I find myself not bothering to do it much. (Used to save before EVERY battle on the Genesis -- instant save sure was nice...) They should at LEAST give you something to look at while it loads/saves (like the table or something you can think about...) 3) Scrolling. There is no way to "speed up" the cursor on the map. There is some lame map moving function, but you get lost too easy with it. And there is no "page up" or "page down" in the Table or the magic spells. WEAK! 4) The stupid-ass "my monster couldn't hit the broad side of a barn" percentage system is back and worse than ever... What is the deal with that? Magic hits 100% of the time. (That is my current work-around.) Simply weaken the monster first with magic, then have a monster kill it. If that fails, kill it with magic, giving the master experience.) 5) Tower colors. At certain times, you cannot tell the difference between a neutral tower and an occupied tower. STUPID! And what is up with the time of day colors? I thought night was dark and day was bright. What is with these weird colors? 6) When you put your cursor on a monster, it doesn't show a picture of the damn thing! (The Genesis version did.) All it gives you is writing! This is REALLY annoying since the damn writing is in Japanese! 7) The "on-screen" map doesn't go away. This thing is constantly taking up screen space. They should have made it so that if you hit a button it appears. 8) The monsters you are able to summon changes from map to map. Is the master senile or something? How could he FORGET how to summon monsters he has in the past??? 9) The new select options. Now you have to select the master, then select options like magic, summon, etc. This REALLY sucks when your master is 3 screens away from where all the action is and you have to keep going back to him to select magic. It wouldn't be so bad if it it went back to him INSTANTLY instead of fucking scrolling back to him... LAME! 10) Too easy. I walked all over the computer the very first time I played. There should be a difficulty setting for masters like myself. In fact I have stopped playing because it's pretty much pointless... Basically I can just take out all the enemy monsters every turn with my master (using the 210MP "big blue ball" attack.) I do that twice and all the monsters surrounding the enemy master are gone. My master is so pumped up (level 70+ and I'm only on the 6th or 7th map.) Even if I had to fight 2 other masters, I would have MP left after killing all enemy monsters... Bascially there is no need at all for my monsters, except to kill the enemy master. The temple fusion just sucks. I have tried so many damn combinations and only have gotten that Law Golem so far. DO NOT BUY THE JAPANESE VERSION -- WAIT FOR THE ENGLISH VERSION I have talked to the guys over at ASCII and they had simular complaints about the Japanese version. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- You have reached the end of this fine document.
