Last night after getting home I plugged into Victoria to watch a couple of shows whilst I unwound after a not unusual poor train journey home.
One of my favourite channels is The Crime Investigation channel and currently I have to a show called Masterminds and a show called Crime Stories on series record, so I watched Mastermind, which was about some dude who took Vegas for $15M from slot machines but inserting a micro chip into the machine and forcing it to drop a jackpot combination, all very interesting, but after that I watched Crime Stories and it has got to be one of the funniest shows I’ve seen in ages.
Usually the show is about some complicated crime incidence, but every now and then they throw in an odd ball episode and last night was one of those episodes. The episode was about new police recruits at a Police Academy just outside New York City. Now most people have seen the comedy films called Police Academy, with the likes of Jones, Hightower, Tacclebury and Moouser, along with places like the Blue Oyster Club, and those films were funny, but this show had me rolling.
Basically 45 recruits turned up, some straight out of high school, some 2nd jobbers, there was even a ex missile commander, they turned up and out came the drill instructors and they were everything you see a drill instructor to be in the movies. They walk down the line of recruits and they single a couple of people out then two or three of the drill instructors descend on that person then inches from this recruits face, the three of the instructors are just barking at them. Then depending on that person’s reaction they’d just turn away say, “You ain’t gonna make it, I don’t want to see you tomorrow” or “I can see you’re gonna be slacker, we don’t want slackers, not on my watch.”
I think what made this show so funny was the fact that all the drill instructors were exactly as you saw them portrayed in films and you always think, it’s just not like that in real life…. But yep it is, dang funny I have to say… out of the 45 who started 39 graduated, one of the ones who dropped out was one of the people who was told within the first hour, not to come back the day….. he didn’t return….
Can someone help me here, I’m looking at going to Vegas next year for Easter and I was reading a review on a hotel just off the strip and in one particular review, someone wrote the following; “The only rift raft we ran into was late night once with some random drunk guy but that's Vegas and we're from Baltimore so that didn't faze us at all.” Couple of things….. surely if it didn’t faze you… why even mention it and secondly, what is so special about people from Baltimore, can someone enlighten me, and with that quest for knowledge set, I’ll say Peace, Unity, Love and Having Fun to yawl.
