WARNING - The following is a rant. Stop right here if you don't want to "hear" it.
What I'm seeing is a lack of respect. Give some credit where credit is due. I know there have been years where it wasn't pretty but I think we're looking at the real thing here. The last few years should be proof enough that what is happening is no fluke. Sure, it's way too early to tell but I think we've got something special going on.
What am I talking about? The CHARGERS, of course. My Bolts are 2-0 to start the season but I'm not seeing any love. I don't know if it's East coast bias or what exactly is the reason. Granted, they have not always been successful. No one knows that better than me. But based on what I've seen this season, the Chargers look very impressive. No one wants to give them credit and that is what makes me mad.
When they destroyed the Oakland Raiders, all you hear is how horrible the Raiders are. True. They are pretty awful, but they are a professional NFL team. When the Ravens do the same thing to the Raiders in week 2, all you hear is how great the Ravens are. Did the Raiders improve in one week to the point where, once the Ravens beat them, it's some great feat? Absolutely not. So how can the Charger's shredding of Oakland be considered anything less than a total domination? And the Ravens did it on their home field. The Chargers went into hostile territory and obliterated the Raiders on the road.
No big deal, move to week 2. This week's victim, the Tennesee Titans. Arguably a better team than the Raiders. Surely the lowly Chargers will have trouble here. On the contrary, the Chargers destroyed them too. 15 yards of total offense in the 1st half. I repeat, 15 YARDS of total offense in the 1st half. That is 30 yards less than the Raiders managed the week before. The Titans were held scoreless until 3 minutes were left in the game and the outcome was never once in doubt. Another totally dominant performance. I'm sure we'll get some love this week?!
Nope. I heard more about how well Vince Young did (or how horrible Collins was) than anything else about the game. I guess I could never be a professional sportscaster if that is the story you got from the game. Oh yeah, someone mentioned Shawne Merriman in a back handed compliment of his interception. How about LaDainian Tomlinson become only the 63rd player in NFL history to surpass 10,000 yards in his career. How about LT tying Lance Alworth with 83 career TD's?! McCardell moved into 9th place on the all time career receptions list? Plenty of good stories there.
The story is always how bad the opponents are - never how well the Chargers played. I suppose we'll have to wait until week 4. Week 3 is a bye but week 4 is the Ravens. I guess we will see where we stand after that. If the Ravens are as good as the media says, if we beat them there should be no doubt. Then, when the love comes pouring in, I intend to be righteously indignant.
And since we are on the subject of injustice, the replay call in the final moments of the Oklahoma/Oregon game was the most horrible call I've ever seen. The Pac-10 announced today that the officiating crew (the replay official in particular) made a mistake with the call. The result was a loss for the Sooners in a game that they clearly won. An official apology was issued by the Pac-10 and the officiating crew was suspended for 1 game.
Meanwhile, the Sooners have been cheated out of a win, which means everything under the BCS. That idiot has blemished their record and only time will tell how much it will cost the Sooners. If they win out (which is entirely possible) it could cost them a shot at the national title. At the very least it could cost them a BCS berth if they fail to win the Big 12. The result of that is millions of dollars in lost bowl revenue for the school and the program. All because some idiot in a booth failed to make the right call.
If you've read this far, I know you totally agree 100% with everything I've said. If you don't, then you obviously are delusional or you work for the Pac-10, the Raiders, the Titans or the East Coast biased media.
This is the end of my ranting... for now. Stay tuned for more hysteria!

Re: Where is the love?
Submitted by Rory K STAFF on Wed, 2006-09-20 21:27.I might know what 15 yds of total offence means, but I havent the faintest idea what BCS or Scooners are.......
But, with all that said,....I am loving the venom and looking forward to the Ravens losing in Week 3 so that the Chargers can beat a poor Ravens side and all the media talk about is how bad the boys from Baltimore were
