Just Cause is yet another Grand Theft Auto wannabe, so you wont be too surprised to hear that it is set in a huge map full of people going about their everyday lives. You can steal their cars, run them over, shoot them, or just scare them a little.
Annoy the cops and they will chase you, usually ending up as a big shootout.
The game is far more 'James Bond' than GTA games have been. Your character can pull off some pretty amazing stunts that add a nice new angle to this type of game.
The graphics are not the best you will see on the PS2, but the plus side is that each area is massive and their is no loading time as you drive around.
The shooting style allows for both a quick-fire target lock option (that makes killing enemies very easy) and a very fussy cross-hair option that takes some time to master.
So far the missions seem very simplistic. Arrive in a village, kill all the enemies, claim the village for your side. I am hoping that this develops a little more. Side missions are available, but so far they are of little challenge.
The first few levels are very simple. Enemies are easy to finish off, as they have all been to the 'Stevie Wonder' target practice school, but as there are no difficulty settings on this game, I am hoping that their accuracy will improve pretty soon.
First impressions are that this is a game you should rent rather than buy, but I will let you know if it develops into something better in the next few days.
