Not been blogging as late due to shift work, but now getting to reviewing games again & not keeping with new releases I'm sort of doing a back catalogue of games that should be reviewed.
So far I've had the pleasure of getting my hands on Bully, the game not beating up a real one and passing on it due to it needs a good week of play time.
One game that stands out for me in the past was Ico and when they announced a sequel to it a few years ago I thought it would have to be spectacular to beat that rare cult like status game. Try buying it today & you can, but all you get is the blue PS2 cased game. Back when Ico was released and it was released as a limited game it came in a cardboard satin case with 4 limited edition postcards. Not thinking at the time I only borrowed the game & soon after I thought I should get it for the collection for replay value it vanished from the gaming shelves. Sony deleted the game 6 months after the game was released. Now a sort of a rare item on e-bay, an original mint copy can exchange for around £40-50!! There are some stating that they have new original sealed ones, but the case are in french (due to the sold only 4% of the stock in france due to poor reception of the game) don't be fooled. I now have a premo original sealed version of it, now opened for play & that cost me £35 last year.
Back to Colossus, I got hold of this game when it was released in Japan and it is a better version than the supposed tweaked European release. I've already completed the game and it's one of those games once you start you MUST continue to play till the end or when you die.
The game picks up a few years later from Ico, where the boy has aged and the strange girl who he was dragging around is still the same. BTW if you have not played Ico it's a bit of a downer that the girl dies at the end of the game, so you know why she is on a back of a horse with no life. He learns that a place far away, a temple of the colossus can restore the girl's life that was taken away from the strange shadow beasts of Ico. The music & video intro is stunning & the muscial score is very hair pricking. You enter the great hall way from a long, long, long ride across a vast spanning bridge from which you see vallies, mountains, rivers and lakes. You now start to understand how huge this game arena is going to be. From riding down the hall your passing 16 "Colossal" stone statues of beasts of vary statue. Four legged, some with wings, sea bearing beasts and some with weapons that would put Metal Gear to shame.
On placing the girl onto the stone table at the end of the hall a voice from above explains your task at hand. Using the light you can defeat the shadows within the Colossus.......
I'll add more later......................................
