Guide to Burnout Dominator on the PlayStation 2

Previewed Format: PS2
Other Formats: PSP

Finally, the Racing series that everyone knows and loves returns for one final outing on the console that made it huge.

Burnout is the games players alternative to Electronic Arts' 'other' franchise, Need For Speed.

First of all, gone are the endless Traffic Checking of Revenge where you could hit any car or truck you wanted, and that's been replaced with the very essence of maniacal driving, dodging traffic infested motorways and cities.

Dominator is all about the Burnout. Drift, drive into oncoming traffic, swerve at the last second to miss a car and you gradually fill up your Boost Bar. If you want to be the best then just wait until it gets full and turns blue, that's when the fun truly begins. Hold R1 and you start travelling at super speed. Keep that button held else you'll have to start building up the boost bar again. Chain Burnouts together by continually drifting and swerving into oncoming traffic etc. That's where the points are really earned.

In previous instalments, Signature takedowns have been in effect, allowing you to earn photos of specially placed crashes.
This time, not only are these available, but there are brand new signature shortcuts.
Just like the signature takedowns, you have to perform takedowns at certain specially placed spots in races which open up special shortcuts.
These shortcuts enable you to shave precious seconds off of lap times; especially useful for when it comes to showing off your time to your mates and seeing if they can beat your lap times.

It seems something has been taken from the Carbon outing of the Need For Speed franchise as Burnout Dominator will have, count them, SIX different classes of car available to unlock. Classic, Factory, Sports, Muscle, Hotrod, and Supercar will all be available, each with their own Dominator model; only available to the best of the best.

Fittingly, Dominator will finally squeeze those last bits of power from your PS2 with the great visuals of picturesque Japanese B-roads at Autumn time, to towering western metropolises complete with bustling freeways laced with danger.

This game looks to be a fitting end to the series on current generation consoles, setting it up for the all mighty glory that will be Burnout 5 on the next generation consoles.
