Guide to Final Fantasy 7 - Dirge Of Cerberus on the PlayStation 2
It has been three years since Vincent Valentine woke from his nightmare in the dusty Nibelheim mansion.
Three years since Sephiroth hurled that massive meteor towards the Avalanche in an attempt to destroy the Planet.
After three years of almost peaceful rebuilding for the citizens whom dwelled in Midgar, Vincent is once again in big trouble.
Deep Ground Soldiers from Midgar have risen up and begun causing a ruckus, claiming they must cleanse the world of those whom they believe are too inadequate to live.
What is an Ex-Turk to do?
The thing he knows best... Shooting!
The Dirge of Cerberus is the third game to release in the compilation of the popular role-playing game Final Fantasy VII, taking place only one year after the end of the Advent Children. Players will take on the role of Vincent Valentine, in a fight to save the lives on the planet from the deep ground soldiers. While gamers play The Dirge of Cerberus and enjoy the joy of shooting down enemies they will simultaneously be told bit by bit about Vincent Valentine's past (which was one of a slew of unanswered questions after the release of Final Fantasy VII).
Fans expecting this to be an RPG will be disappointed, what we have here is a shooter through and through. Sure there is still a strict focus on the storyline for the first half of the game, but that is as 'deep' as the gameplay will get.
One of the only advantages to these games being launched in Japan months before the rest of the world sees them is that Square Enix get a second chance to make them better. Increased difficulty and various gameplay fixes, such as getting rid of the slow-down that happened every time Vincent pulled out a gun during a battle should help to produce more engaging battles.
The Weapon Customization system is one of the games best features. Starting with a hand-gun, you can gradually buy new parts for it until it becomes a really powerful weapon. Bullets can be modified and combined using several magic add-ons, allowing a basic machine gun to be transformed into a rocket launcher!
Die-hard fans of Final Fantasy VII will be thrilled to see old characters from the RPG come into play once again. Yuffie Kisaragi, Reeve and his menacing doll Cait Sith will cross Vincent's path as he learns about his past. Along with the reunion of a few old faces from the predecessor, they will be happy to see the return of Vincent's Limit Breaks, which can be picked up while walking around in various levels.
