Sony Intros the Next Generation Portable (pics included)
  • Sony had themselves a big meet up through the afternoon Thursday (Japanese time) and one of the items revealed during this is the successor to the PSP!

    For now the handheld is going by the code name NGP (Next Generation Portable). Here are the key points and technical specs:

    * Multi-touch 5-inch organic light emitting display (OLED) as the front display
    * Multi-touch pad on the rear of the device
    * Dual analog sticks
    * Two cameras (front and rear)
    * Software titles on small, dedicated flash memory-based cards
    * Three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass
    * Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity
    * PlayStation Network access, including ““LiveArea™”, “Near” and “Activity” log features Trophy Support
    * NGP will be able to play PSP titles, minis, PS one classics, video and comics from the PlayStation Store.

    This is looking to be a very powerful addition to the Sony line up (and looks pretty good too as the pictures below reveal)

    No word on when this is coming out or a price point (most likely find these out during E3 in the next few months). Meantime, though, we'd like to know what everyone here thinks about it.
  • Liking the look of this, just hope they support this one more than the original.

    I bought the original PSP on launch day, sold it about 6 months later due to a lack of quality software / support.

    Fingers crossed Sony have learnt their lesson.
