Odd noises coming from ps2
  • Darn it! Sometimes, when I put a certain game into my PS2, it starts making these noises like it's eating the disc like a rice cake! It sortof sounds like uhm.......grinding and screeches, but the game works! I don't understand, is my Playstation 2 defective in a very odd way that isnt bad, but isnt good. Or does it simply feel like taking revenge on me for all the people who have stubbed their big toe on the corner of it? ( of course I am being sarcastic about the revenge thing)
  • Alot of the times, the PS2 will make noises, especially when it's older. I would recommend clening out the fan with some compressed air and if that works then good but if not spray some WD-40 into the beaings of the fan to loosen it up some. Another thing that it could be is the cd or DVD rom drives which in that case a cleaner for it should work. If none of that qworks then it may just be a processor noise which happens when the system gets older sometimes. Well, i hope that you enjoy posting and have fun gaming.

let me ask u a question are the games that are making the funny nosies the Blue bottom games(CD ROM GAMES).
if it is that happens with my games also.
But it doesen't happen with my Silver bottom games(DVD ROMS)
  • If that is the situation then i may know a more accurate answer to why the system may be making all the noises that it does. A misallignment of the CD lens is something that can happen very easily including the system being bumped or moved too harshly before or after being sold to you, the consumer. This is not something that you can prove isn't normal wear and tear though so the manufacturer's warranty won't cover it. You may be able to still return it to the store but if i'm not mistaken then you've had your PS2 since almost the release which makes it a bit too old. You should be able to get this fixed through Sony for a fee and may even be able to talk them into doing it for a low price(with enough insisting). That's all i can offer to you with my limited knowledge of this phenomena. Well, i hope that you enjoy posting and have fun gaming.
  • HOLY CRAP! u better clean that mother! my friend's did that! we was playin GTA3 an the PS2 ate it right up! it put in a deep circle engraved inside... i was so heart broken we brought the disc outside and buried it, said our funeral things..."it was a great game to the end" stuff like that...
    so u better do sumthin!
    YEAH :grin1:
  • Its possible that its just the way the PS2 reads certain games. Cos a friend of mine reckoned his Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter was corrupted or something cos it was making the same noise as you mention. So he returned the game and got another copy...guess what it was still noisey. In the end he bought it round to my house and played on my PS2, and it was indeed a noisey loader. We tested it on 3 different PS2's with same result.
  • Well I have a different problem one: I think the moter to open up the cd drive is breaking because everytime I open it it make this weird grinding sound. When i first got it it never did that. Two: I think lens fo reading the dsic needs cleaning or something because it seems to take longer to read the game disc than it did before I got it.

  • Well, just follow the info that was given above and you can get this fixed so you won't have to worry about that anymore. Well, i hope that you enjoy posting and have fun gaming.
  • I tried opening mine and spraying compressed air into it...no luck. I also took Sony's advice and used a vacuum cleaner. That didn't work either.

Just follow the above if you need help. Well, i hope that you enjoy posting and have fun gaming.
  • Hey I've actually pressed the eject button during play because I was brainless for a moment there but I pressed reset right after I did it, Will this ruin my PS2?
  • No worry, this does nothing to your PS2 or game. All you need to do is just restart it and actually some games can still be played....unless it has to load anything. You're safe but i wouldn't continue to do this because long-term damage is unknown for continuation of the misuse. Well, i hope that you enjoy posting and have fun gaming.
  • Be careful - pressing eject/power button when the disc is still moving can cause damage. My friend pressed power button during a read session on Half Life, this misaligned the laser somehow and he could not play anything on it. You have been warned.
  • Ive had this problem too and it wouldnt play any dvds or ps2 games. I called sony about this and they told me to send it to them and they fxed it. You should try this if your ps2 has more problems.
  • Unbelievable !! A Sony engineer came round to pick up my friends PS2 and gave him pre-fixed replacement PS2. Has this happened to anyone else ?
