External Hard Drive Questions
  • Hey-

I was trying too hook up my external USD hard drive to the ps3. It worked and found the HD but, said there was no files on it . I did some research... The HD is in FAT32 format. I even tried making seperate VIDEO and PHOTO file folders and still the ps3 cant find em..

I am using a "ZData Diamond Digital 80GB 2.5" External Hard Drive"

Any help would be appreciated. :)
  • It probably couldn't see them because the formats were something other than what the PS3 can use. The PS3 can see JPEG (DCF 2.0/Exif 2.21 compliant), TIFF, BMP, GIF and PNG images.

For music files it can use ATRAC, MP3, MP4 and WAVE (Linear PCM). If the music files have copy protection on them they may not work on the PS3.

As for videos they must be in MPEG-4, MPEG-2 or MPEG-1 format. Files such as Quicktime, .wmv or .avi would not work.
  • Hi..
It couldnt even see the folders I created...
I put a 4 diff jpgs in the PHOTO file and still It could not find them..
I even put some not in a directory and still could not read it.
But when I re-hook it to my computer everything is there...
  • Go into the particular menu (say Music) on the PS3 and hit the triangle button. You should see a selection called "show all files". Select that and you should then see all the files that can be used.
