Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
  • Well, in the United States, we've still got to wait until July 21st to actually get this book, but now we know just about all of the neccessary facts on it.

    -------------------------------------------------

The number of pages in the book will be: 784

The cover looks a lot like this: Front Cover

And the entire "dust jacket" is a painting in itself. This is cool: Dust Jacket

The front and back of the book jacket read as follows:

    Inside Flap:
Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But Harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety , and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear or hesitation the inexorable path laid out for him… In this final, seventh installment of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling unveils in spectactular fashion the answers to the many questions that have been so eagerly awaited. The spellbinding, richly woven narrative, which plunges, twists and turns at a breathtaking pace, confirms the author as a mistress of storytelling, whose books will be read, reread and read again.
    Back Cover:
Harry is waiting in Privet Drive. The Order of the Phoenix is coming to escort him safely away without Voldemort and his supporters knowing – if they can. But what will Harry do then? How can he fulfil the momentous and seemingly impossible task that Professor Dumbledore has left him with?

    -------------------------------------------------

So those are all the pressing facts about the book (I'll edit this post if any more facts come out later). I thought I'd share those with anyone who had missed a fact or two. If you reply to this thread just to say "I don't like Harry Potter", then I will not be happy with you.

But if you want to discuss some Harry Potter, up until the release of the last book in the series, this is the thread to do it in! :D
  • I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant wait for this last book!!!

And what about the Order of The Pheonix film thats out 2 weeks before the book

    Bring on the summer!!!!!!!!

So what do you think about snape then? Goody or baddy??

Snape is bad. That's what I'm sticking with. I think in the last book it will be a confusing time for Harry, and he will have trouble deciding for himself whether Snape is good or bad. But eventually, I'm guessing that Snape is bad through and through.

Do you think that Harry Potter is going to die in this book?
  • mmmm - I think that the last horcrux is in harry in some way so the only way to finish voldemort off is to kill himself. Or would that be too much for the kid readers?

I still not sure about snape though...
  • I don't know about the horcrux being IN Harry, but I would bet that Harry is going to have to make a hard decision while searching for the horcruxes. Like: let a close friend die or kill Voldie. I know, thats a little vague, because the whole book will probably be full of hard decisions Harry has got to make, but that's all I've got.

I think Snape has displayed too much bad aura that it is kind of irreversible right now. He has let good people die, so that automatically makes him bad in my mind. I don't think he could do something good enough to suddenly become a "good guy".

New question: Do you think any of Harry's friends will die? Much has been said about perhaps Ginny dying, or maybe Ron Weasley. I think there is a good chance that Ginny will die... how about you?
  • mmmm maybe harry has to choose between ron or hermionie?

yer that sownds rite coz u know.... harrys dreams and talking to snakes and stuff makes sence but probly wont happen. but if i wrote it on the other hand
  • Yeah - it makes sense but i forget how this is in fact a childrens book sometimes and that may be too much for them to deal with!
  • hay wat does M,C and W stand for in your name MCWHAMMER?
  • I think either 1 of ron, hermione and harry will die.......

Ive got a feeling it will be hermione !!!!!!!!

And snape will turn out to be a good guy i think, despite everything hes done..

I agree Rob, I think Harry will die though.

    I dunno about Snape still...

I was thinking the other day, even though J.K. says that this is the last book in the series, it's not really. In five to ten years, she will be low on funds (:)) and she'll definitely write another one, using whatever characters that didn't die off in "Deathly Hallows".

This is the biggest book series ever, J.K. isn't just going to quit.

I think its very likely that harry will die and voldemort, but do you think in a duel !!! i mean realistically how could j.k make out that harrys a match for voldemort... i no they fought in goblet of fire and that weird thing happened between them but harry would have lost eventually, and unless harrys one lucky guy he shouldnt have any help in the last book!!!

Lets wait and see about snape...

And yeah even though j.k has earnt what millions and millions of pounds off harry potter, more money will lure her in to writing another harry potter book..

Unless she writes another multi million pound bestselling series in the next couple of years.. :)
  • Oooh my goodness, I am really looking forward to both the book and the movie this summer!! I will DEFINITELY be going to see that one!!! By myself even, if I have to!!

I believe there will be at least one death in the last book, (remember please that Harry finally found a God-father who was then lost to him). Ms. Rowling is not put out by putting death in her books, obviously, since it is a natural part of life's process and it seems to me that she is very good at giving her readers (children included) credit for being intelligent enough to handle that truth. My opinion, though, is that at least one of the deaths will be Professor Dumbledore. I don't know why I feel that, but I can imagine Dumbledore losing his life while assisting Harry in a duel with Voldemort.

As for Snape, I have always held that he is one of the good guys, and I still hold to that.

Oh, and no, I don't think Harry is gonna die either.
Guess we'll all be finding out for sure soon enough!! Ok, it's not soon enough to suit me! LOL!!!!!!!

MC, excellent thread and thank you for including the links to the cover and dust jacket. Woweee, what incredible artwork!!!!!!!!!!
  • yer harry should be a horcrux but u no lil kids don like the hero dieing but still HARRY iS A HORCRUX

Soz been away for a while.

Anyway, I HAD to answer this. Prof. Dumbledore died in book 6 Half Blood Prince. Snape killed him. Dumbledore made Harry put on his Cloak of Invisibility, just as they were entering Hogwarts. Snape was there, started to kill Dumbledore, Harry tried to help, but Dumbledore kind of paralyzed Harry so he couldn't reveal himself.
Snape then escaped. Harry went after him but couldn't catch him in time.
They had the funeral right at the very end of the book. Everyone was there, even the Merpeople of the lake came above the water and sang (albeit deafening to everybody else as they screech when above water as we found out with the Egg in the fourth book).

As for the seventh book. Someone close to Harry is supposed to die apparently, don't have a clue who though. My money is prob on Ron as he's, kind of, the weakest of the three main characters. Although, it could be Hermione due to her sometimes getting VERY emotional (didn't mean that as a sexist remark, but it IS true nonetheless).

As for Harry being the final Horcrux, it's a BIG possibility. Afterall, they are basically pieces of Voldemorts soul, each being a transferrence of some of his power.
His power was transferred into Harry which is why Harry is so gifted and powerful.
That's also why Harry's wand is the twin to Voldemort's wand (as we found out in the very first book when Harry was taken "shopping" by Hagrid).

    So that's my er 6 or 7 pence/cents worth
  • HOW in the name of all that is NON-MUGGLE did I miss that book!?!?!?!?!!?!?!? Good Heavens to Betsy this is embarassing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I will be out and about day after tomorrow hunting for a new bathroom door, so I wills stop at the nearest bookstore and purchase it!!!!!!!!!!!
GOOD GRAVY I can't believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it's time for me to hide now, isn't it!?!? :bag:
  • Oh no i missed it aswell i thought id read the 6th book !!!!!

My memory must be pretty shocking i tell you......

Now my opinion of snape has definetly changed bad guy through and through !!!!!!!! (dumbledore was my favourite character aswell)......
  • Oh people!!! How can you have not read the half blood prince!!!!
  • hay if u mist the half blood prince do you know what horcruxs are
  • er I think I've just ruined the Half-Blood Prince for everyone by saying who gets killed and saying what Horcruxes are

OH, wait a sec, I didn't state who the Half-Blood Prince actually is, sooo...I haven't totally ruined it. You'll be surprised I can tell you.
Oh and it's not Harry, as many people, including myself, thought it would be!
You'll never guess in a million years, unless you either read the book or get told.

NO MORE SPOILERS ABOUT BOOK 6 PLEASE FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT READ IT YET!!!!!

Hey Jane, how long did it take you to read the sixth book? I read it in like a day, probably about 15-20 hours or so at the most.
I'm not a very fast reader though :(
  • I am the slowest reader ever it will take me like a month lol !!!!!!!!!
  • Not long really - i bought it when i was in nottingham with tiff for a party with friends and he had to drag me out of the hotel and i read it when i got back and all the way home in the car!!

Ive read it about 6 times since - its fantastic!!

Same here. I love reading, and like to read either a magazine or from a good book every day, but I have never gotten any faster.

Well, I thought I would return to this thread because the time is almost upon us! This Saturday, the final book in the Harry Potter series will be released. The biggest selling series in literary history is coming to a close, and the highly anticipated finale is being shipped to bookstores and customers as you read this!

Now, I want to say, whoever picks up the book, do not immediately come here and spoil the ending for everyone. That goes without saying, but I realize that there are stupid people running rampant on the 'net with spoilers. This is not the thread to post them in. :frown: (Be careful what websites you do visit while you're reading the book... I have already seen a lot of respectable websites that are posting possible spoilers in visible places.)

Now, any final thoughts before we crack open our copies of Deathly Hallows?

I have been listening to a lot of Mugglecast, and I have found myself nodding along with the theories and ideas spoken on there quite a bit. One that I am having a little trouble believing is the theory that (Discontinue reading if you have not yet read Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince)

Dumbledore told Snape to do the dirty deed at the end of book 6. Dumbledore knew ahead of time what was coming, and that it had to be done. Dumbledore instructed Snape to kill him :O. It's been speculated that Snape is still in The Order of the Phoenix. I dunno about that. I never have liked Severus.

Anybody else have some good final theories to discuss? Time is almost up for that!
  • MCWHAMMER said:
...Anybody else have some good final theories to discuss? Time is almost up for that!

That theory relating to Dumbledore and Snape is very intersting to say the least.
What interested me was when Dumbledore used the Petrificus Maximus (spelling?) spell jus before then (won't mention who on as it might spoil it for people still years behind who haven't read book 6 yet).
That person had to watch Dumbledore die even though they wanted to stop it happening, damn.

You heard about all these apparent "spoilers"? Load of rubbish if you ask me, like for instance this one:
Neither can die while the other lives (or whatever that quote is) leading to the supposed reasoning that Harry is the final Horcrux and he has to die in order for Voldy to be able to be killed.

Another interesting one is that Harry isn't actually the one who kills Voldemort, that actually, of all people, Ginny delivers the final blow, probably out of true love for Harry (god i hope they get married and have children, they're great together). Er, oops, sorry, I think I just spoiled a bit there about Harry and Ginny

There are others as well, but cannot be bothered mentioning them.

As for me? Well I actually wrote a possible summarised ending of the seventh book after reading the sixth, be good to know how close I came, or more than likely how far, off the actuall ending written by J K (which she had figured out when she was first penning the first book) Did you know that little fact? Well you do now ;)

Yeah, I've heard that theory a ton of times, but I do not think Harry is a Horcrux. I prefer to think that all of the Horcruxes or Horcruxi (:)... I don't know the plural or Horcrux. Hmm...) are inanimate objects, and not teenage boys, lol.

Hadn't heard that one, but it is possible. I think if anything, it is just another random theory going around.

Best thing to do this week is to ignore all Harry Potter news articles on the internet, because you will get tricked into reading a spoiler. I am scared to death someone is going to ruin it. Don't you ruin it for me Jason. Don't you ruin it for me. ;)

Now don't worry mcw, I won't ruin the book for you, just the ending.

hehem, seriously though man, I'm not like that. It's not fair spoiling the ending of anything, let alone a multi-million (possibly billion) pounds series of books like Harry Potter.
I mean, some people have been waiting er 10, is that the right amount or is it more?, er 10 years ish to finally find out what happens and how this all plays out.

Let us hope J K does not let us down. I doubt she will, because she is an amazing author. Just a pity they didn't manage to really grab the essence of the fifth book in the fifth film. Now THAT was a real let down for me, well the ending was I mean. They totally scrapped the entire speech Dumbledore gives Harry, I mean hello, that is the main part of the book, where harry learns of what happened that night when he was still a baby and his parents died by old Voldy.
What a mess of things they made, ruining a great film franchise just by getting rid of 5 maybe 10 minutes tops worth of conversation time.
Anyone disagree with me about the ending of Order and the Pheonix (the film version I mean)? I very like doubt it.

    Jay

I'm not so worried about you spoiling it, it's just I know that random internet surfing could lead to me reading the ending by accident (Like a spam email or something), so I am on edge right now ;)

I think whatever way it plays out, people will be unhappy. That's just how it goes. But, I know how much stress J.K. has been under, so the fact that she has any kind of legitimate ending is amazing in itself.

Sounds like you enjoyed the film . I have yet to see it, I will probably hold out for the DVD, but I have heard similar sentiments across the internet. Everyone hates that they have to cut and nip away parts from the book that are too meaningful to lose. It's too bad. I'd prefer my memories of the series be held in the book form, in my mind, than chopped up and in a movie. Still, it made a ton of money, so WB is pretty happy right now.

Jay, do you have the book pre-ordered anywhere? I've got mine pre-ordered from Amazon... they are going to deliver it Saturday by Noon supposedly. I can't wait :D. On the other hand, I will not be playing video games for the next month. Too bad.

Do I have it preordered? DO I HAVE IT PREORDERED?
Where do people come up with such stupid questions? :p Of course I have it preordered. :D
Like I said when I was joking about telling you the ending, I'll get it Saturday and hopefully have it finished by Sunday or Monday at the latest.
That's about how long it took me to read book 6, which is similar length to book 7 I believe. :o
  • Got my copy today but wont be reading it as yet cos i am still on the first  I brought it for someone and will borrow it off them once they have finished reading it and i have caught up LOL
  • I am just about to start chapter 10. It's great so far, won't say what's happened but there's already been a bit of a ruckus, and that's all you're getting from me...Intrigued? Well then buy book 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and find out how it allends :D
  • got it yesterday morning and i was still reading at 2am did it come out on sat 4 u guys?

im almost finished it its gonna make a gr8 movie
  • Finished It! .
  • yer in the papper i read about a month back that sied that som1 hacked som1's PC and read the book and the papper published wat happend in the broom bit near the start the a** h*l*s

the fing is the security for this book was huge and J.K.R dosent type so who the hek had HP #7 on thier PC?
  • It was on the radio yesterday that the first person to finish it was a speed reader, she finished it in 42 minutes :o
  • Speed reader I sooo am not; however, I FINALLY finished it today, better late than never, right?
You see, in the case of Half Blood Prince, I had no internet connection at home so I had nothing to distract me from my goal of finishing it, hence why I had it done within about 15-20 hours total, tops.

Because of the internet, which I now have at home, that time slipped astronomically to like practically, more or less, a full week with Deathly Hallows :o

I was not entirely surprised with you know who (won't mention his name as it will spoil the story for people who haven't got that far yet). I was never totally convinced he was on the "other" side, and book seven confirmed my inklings.

And what about the whole "two or three main characters die", I would say it was nothing like 2 or 3, won't say how many but it certainly was NOT 2 or 3.

The way it ends is brilliant as well, I think J K did brilliantly, everyone loves a happy ending, whether they want to admit it or not :p lol
