  • The last number shows the motherboard revision.

    If I remember right, version1 had the core DVD drivers on a seperate disk and was only available in Japan, Version 2 was the first one to be used in the USA and Europe and the latest consoles now used version 4.
  • What is the difference between the diffrent versions? I some better than the others? And if there are better versions, which is the Best! ???
  • The motherboard is revised for one of 3 different reasons:

    1: to reduce production costs
    2: to combat piracy
    3: increase reliability

    The latest one should be the best... but as owners of the original PlayStation will testify, this is not always the case.
