Blu-Ray VS HD-DVD --WHO WILL CRASH AND BURN?
  • ok the to new vidio players HD DVD [microsoft's Xbox 360plays theas] or blue-ray [sony's ps3 ofcorse] now they recon 1 of theas is gonna buy out the other coz u know blue rays cant play in a xbox 360 and hd dvd's cant play in a ps3 now that i know blue ray has better quality picture but is alot more expensive.

WHO do u think will buy out the other blue ray or dh dvd
  • i recon blue ray will buy hd dvd coz they are better just more expensive

were just gonna wait untill 1 wins and buy witch eva buys the other.

you know the same thing happend with VCR's way back.
  • Hmmmm alot of people have been talking about this for sometime...
I think blu-rays got the better chance, i mean at the moment it is doing better than hd-dvd, from what ive seen, thanks to the publicity drive, blu-ray is all over the tv with plenty of shows trying it out for the viewers, where as hd-dvd is kind of lurking in the shadows with no one really hearing about it, obviously the PS3 has also gave blu-ray a big advantage...

And, the price is sometimes 7 pounds or (however much dollars) more than hd-dvd, but in time i think the price will drop for blu-ray films, so i dont think the price is going to be such a big issue ,i really think blu-ray will win in time.

Another problem for blu-ray is that the hd-dvd seems to have a bigger variety of films to choose from!!!!! But go blu-ray you will win!!!!

And yeah the VHS and Sonys Betamax were locked in a format war sometime ago, it was claimed that the Betamax was of the better quality but dearer, so the VHS won... Hey isnt the blu-ray of better quality but a little dearer...uh-oh... deja-vu anyone ??????????????????
  • ummm ok i fink this form need editing abit coz u sied blue ray will win and voted that blue ray will sell out [faile how] so i fink i've stuffed this form some how
  • Personally, I think Blu-Ray will win this war.
I guess it all depends on the successfulness (er is that even a word?) of this generations consoles (XBOX360 and PS3, doesn't really matter about the Wii in this respect).
With Sony pushing the Blu-Ray, and the majority of Hollywood's top studios releasing films on just this format, then I'd say it's a good bet that this will win out.
    But...you never know

p.s. I edited your poll for you, Martin, so it makes more sense, lol :)
  • When JVC and Sony went toe to toe in the early 80s with VHS and Betamax - JVC stole a march on Sony by getting all the big movie studios to release their hottest titles on the Video Home System.

25 years later Sony are a major force in movies too so maybe they have learned their lesson pretty well.
  • yer i stuffed this i go for blue ray not hd dvd so its realy 100% for blue ray

    It's 100% Blu-Ray now.
Is that everything? Or is there anything else you need doing?

  • The answer is about to arrive in stores... a COMBINED BluRay and HDDVD player.

LG have a multi blu-ray/HD-DVD player that will be in stores soon for about $900 USD £600 GBP

Samsung will be releasing one soon too.

combined drives for your PC are also about to be released.

Its great to see companies quickly solving this problem for consumers, so we don't have to make a choice. They did the same thing for the DVD+R and DVD-R recordable DVD discs a few years ago.
  • thats $1500 aussi dollers im sticking with blue-ray

Yeah thats great to see :)... too bad the answer of many people will be $900/£600 !!!! Dyu think were rich!!!!! LOL :)

And i dont really see the point. Now the PS3 has got firmware 1.8 which as you know upscales dvds to hd, is there going to be such a big difference between blu-ray and a normal dvd ..... except the price of course.....

Thats nice to hear thanks mate. :D
  • If you actually think about this? dvd has been around for years now, at least five in the running, blue-ray hasnt come out untill the ps3 came out, they both have likelyness, but the hd-dvd in all actuality does have a higher chance of surviving

You cant watch HD-DVD on a normal DVD player... to watch High definition movies you need to buy a new one.

To be honest, when they upgraded the PS3 firmware recently it suddenly made all of my regular DVD's look amazing on my HDTV (so long as you sit about 6ft away from the TV)... so who needs either of these formats !

With regards to the difference in quality between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, you can only really compare when you watch the exact same movie. I have watched about 20 Blu-Ray movies and quite a few of them looked rubbish... you can almost see the grain of the film on many of the older ones.

Thank goodness Sony sent me the James Bond Blu-Ray with my PS3, as its so clear and sharp that it shows how good Blu-Ray can be. By the way, its a must-see movie too !
  • I'm still betting that Blu-Ray will win, but it wont kick off for a long time yet.

As Jim mentioned, with the PS3 it is now possible to upscale them to HD, and they do look amazing and with DVDs being so cheap, whos gunna want to go out and spend £10.00 more on Blu-Ray when they can just buy a normal Dvd and still watch it in HD...

But all that said, people will start to switch to Blu-Ray, and in the end it will come out on top i think...

As of my experience with Casino royale on Blu-Ray, the new format really does enhance your viewing entertainment. ;)
Plus Blu-Rays are so easy to control on the PS3, which helps a lot...
  • Blu-Ray will win for sure - they have been using it for years for storing super large files for differant applications in the IT industry. Also, considering the XBOX360? You guys heard about the Red-Ring of Death yet?
