Now I'm not too sure how long ago Tenchu 3 came out overseas, but it just made it to our (Australian) shores! After borrowing this game off KiLLa, I've decided to beat him to it with the impressions. :P For those who don't know, this game is basically about killing evil villians, using your awesome ninja skills and stealthiness. Though I must say straight off the bat that I'm quite pissed. No not drunk, but annoyed. Annoyed that the game didn't turn out as good as I wanted it to. Despite much criticism, I found the controls to be very nice. Each move/function is eaily accessible, and you don't need to be a genius to work them all out. Stealth kills also rock, though are a tad repetitive. A stealth kill is basically when you sneak up on an opponent without them knowing, and..well, kill them. To do a stealth kill, simply hold down R1 and press the attack button - it took me a while to figure this out... The camera is amongst one of the worst I have ever seen in a game. When you're on rooftops and what not, it's hard to see where the hell an enemy is, hence providing for a tiny challenge to go un-noticed. Enemy A.I. is also average, though reasonable. You have a little 'meter' called the Ki meter (I think?), and everytime you perform a stealth move the bar fills up. Once the bar is complete, you then have the ability to perform a special move throughout the entire level. Graphically, the game is very nice - some of the best I have seen on the PS2. Quality cut-scenes, and some nice textures, overall quite appealing. Another I noticed is that there are limited jaggies, which is all that is need to make me happy. The sound is pretty good, the character selection and menu music rocks, but the in-game music stinks! I don't know if it's just me, but I found it to be extremely irritating. The sound effects are good, and I like it in the first level where you can hear the drunks partying.... So far I'd give it a 7/10 - a good game, but I think my expectations may have been a little to high. Oh and remember, ninjas rock!
