Review of Jonny Moseley Mad Trix
What is Freeskiing? I was wondering this myself. Freesking, also known as new–school skiing is all about tricks. Similar to snowboarding and skateboarding, the moves include grabs, catching big air, railslides, and anything else you can imagine. Many years ago, skiing was the popular snow sport. Folks then picked up snowboarding to do something different. To bring skiing back into play, Freeskiing was created, and the beat goes on and on!!!
As you may of guest, Jonny Moseley is the king of freeskiing and star of the game. He also introduced this style of skiing into the Olympics. There are other Pros practicing this style as well, like Tanner Hall who turned Pro when he was just 10 years old. Evan Raps who is well known for his 50 ft “Lawn Dart” move. Vincent Dorion who perfected backward skiing. These are the big names but Mad Trix also has some unknown riders as well that can be played.
There are two playing modes, Freeride and Competition. Freeride mode has no pressure. The player can explore the course and exercise their moves with no restrictions. This is a good mode for starting out, checking out the scenery, and finding any shortcuts, etc. On the other hand, competition is a bit more challenging and rewarding. Choose a skier and a slope and compete for medals, equipment, and other goodies. As the players abilities progress, more skiers will be unlocked as well as courses.
The handling and controls are similar to SSX. Meaning, Mad Trix is pretty much a pick up and play type of game. There are basic grabs, grinds, big air tricks, and signature moves. There are also power ups to assist the player. Certain skiers, under certain conditions, can only perform the signature moves. The harder the trick, the more points you can get. To pull off grabs, while in the air – hit L1, L2, R1, or R2 or a combination of two of these keys. The longer you hold the button, the longer the rider will hold the trick….Easy stuff!!
The graphics were disappointing, and could have been much better in my opinion. Another words, there is no contest when compared to SSX or Tricky. Mad Trix is a drilled down…much simpler version. The skiers are simple looking but displayed decent animation. I have to admit, some of the scenery was nice like the wicked peaks of Everest and Alaska. There are other neat courses as well that take place in San Francisco and Las Vegas. It was just a damn shame, the concept was there and the game displayed potential but it was apparent that the developers did not work hard enough on the looks of the game. What a pity!!
The sound track is awful in my opinion. I had to turn the volume all the way down it was giving me a freaking headache. The music is made up of a lot of rap crap!! The sound effects and the announcer’s commentary were poor also. There was no enthusiasm and I found it quite monotonous as well as rather annoying.
OUR PLEDGE: We promise that we have fully played 'Jonny Moseley Mad Trix' before writing this review. The scores given above are our honest opinion and were not influenced in any way by the manufacturer or distributor of the game.
