Guide to Odin Sphere on the PlayStation 2

Most companies today are only interested in incredible graphics. These notions can lead to a sorry storyline and tarnish a game. Atlus went the other direction. They gave their new game an old school look by going back to two dimensions while at the same time delivered an incredible storyline.

Odin Sphere features a fully voiced dialog available in both English and Japanese for the North American PS2 version. The game also features hand drawn artwork and hand drawn animations to deliver an experience we haven't felt since the PSOne days.

Odin Sphere's story is definitely unique. The story is told through a little girl named Alice who is reading the stories out of a series of books in what appears to be an attic. Each book contains the story of the game's five protagonists.

The protagonists are warriors connected to royalty from each of the five nations of the world Erion. In this world the realm controlled by the demon lord Odin invades the realm of Ringford to obtain and control the crystallization cauldron.

The game will advance as you play as these five different characters and get to view each characters point of view towards the story. The story will be told in chapters. Each chapter follows one of the five characters. The story gets interesting when one chapters protagonist can be another chapters antagonist. In other words these characters stories will at times overlap and conflict with each other. You get to see and control what happens from both perspectives.

Odin Sphere will offer an opportunity to play a game with a unique style and should provide a good time for hours. Who knows, maybe playing a PS2 game with 2-D graphics might even inspire you to blow the dust off of your other rpg classics!
