Interesting topic. Sure to get some interesting responses. I know this is going to be the unpopular stance, but I don't see anything wrong with what the Yankees' coach did. Here's why...

Do you think Romney wants special treatment? I'd bet almost anything that he wants to be treated just like anyone else. And that is exactly what happened. If he was the worst batter on the team, then he was the worst. Why should the opposition pitch to the best hitter when the weakest is up next and first base is open? What would have been wrong was if the Sox's coach had pulled Romney.

How many times do you see Barry Bonds get walked so they can pitch to the batter behind him? It happened 120 times in 2004 and over 600 times during his career. Oh yeah, I forgot, this isn't the majors. But you know every kid out there pretends it is. It was their World Series.

A coach owes it to their team to do anything and everything within the rules to help the team win. Doesn't that coach have a responsibility to all the kids he's coaching? Saying that the coaches just did it for themselves, that doesn't hold water. Those coaches are not paid. They volunteer their time. They do it for the kids and because they love the game.

In any sport, somebody has to win and somebody has to lose, even when it is played for fun. The Sox didn't lose the game because one player struck out or because one batter was intentionally walked. They shouldn't rain on the parade just because it isn't for them. It sounds like sour grapes.

It doesn't look like Romney hurt his team in the past. After all, they made it to the title game. It's unfortunate that the decisive at bat came down to him but his parents knew what they were getting him into when they signed him up. The sad part is that the whole thing has been made to be about Romney... A kid who probably just wanted to play baseball like everyone else.
