I died about 4 times alone dropping off the broken staircase/fire escape during the gulag. You know, the ground level right before you go underground and right after you waste the guy with the rocket launcher shooting from the next building. Every time, that shotgun dude came out of the locked door and wasted me. I finally made him eat a grenade.

A little tip: Check your objectives often during Black Ops using the select button. It will offer a little display (Example - 7/12) It will help make sure you don't leave an area without fully completing all objectives, especially the newly destructive ones.
