To go online with PS2 games on the PlayStation 3 you need to have a connection file set up on the virtual card.
However, the main reason NBA 2K6 likely won't go online is the servers for that game would have been turned off by now and likely transferred over for the latest game in the series (2K8). This is a normal practice for sports games. You will have to make due with the offline play for that game.
