Default US PS2 slim region free - chip or DVD?

I would like to play German games on my US playstation (PS2 slim) and don't know if that requires a chip or just a region free DVD. What would you recommend?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Patricia

Default Re: US PS2 slim region free - chip or DVD?

Doing what you are wanting would require the chip. There are no games made on region free DVDs. I will also say that we at APi do not recommend using these as it could possibly shorten the lifespan of your system (especially if the solder gets in the wrong place).

You would be better off using a system made for that region- pricier, I know, but you would be sure the games would work.
