I am having problems getting the card from the crystal after it has been smashed, I keep getting squashed any help would be appreciated.

After the crystal is smashed, walk towards the security card as the weight is being hoisted upwards - not when the lifting process has ceased (and the weight has already reached it's highest point). You should have enough time to walk up to the card, add it to your inventory, and get out of the way.,Once you have the card in hand, you will hear a "click" noise at some point, and you'll be unable to trigger the weight from falling again.
