The common advice is to take a 10 minute break or so each hour if gaming for long periods of time. This can hold true for your game system as well. When you take a break, save your game and shut the system down as well to let things cool down a bit.

If nothing got damaged inside, yes. Even so, it's best to take the breaks as i listed above, both for the system's health and for your own.
