It definitely is possible- just copy the connection settings you have for the PS2 onto a virtual card that will be set up on the hard drive for PS2 saves. If you have the memory card adapter you can use that to copy everything over, including any saves you want to use.

I tried...the connection was found but it said no internet adapter found in the ps2 or something like that. Anything?

That is the only thing that I don't think works with the backwards compatibility... you can't go online in ps2 games via the ps3... at least not yet.

Otherwise, you should be able to play most, if not all the ps2 games you have on your ps3.
