Default Tuning my Ps1 into my Lcd Tv

I am having trouble tuning my old playstation 1 into my new Lcd Wharfedale Tv. I am not very technical and need some help!
From what i've heard i need some AV control? But there is no Av control on my remote and other than that i'm lost! I've turned it to TV instead of DTV and done automatic tuning to see if it picked up the playstation but nothing... Help!?

By "av control" they mean setting the input that the tv looks to for your picture. What sort of cables are you using for your hook up?
