| Hmm, clear case of age. *My PSX is about 5 years old as well. *It plays fine but i heard awhile ago two different types went out about 5 years ago. They vary with the different number codes under the PSX. The number is on the back sticker. Mine says U5928906. *If its a different number on your then you may need it serviced or buy a new one for $100 bucks. *Goto a Wiz or Circuit City near you and have it serviced. *Hope this helps. |

| i can make a few suggestions...i'm not an electronics expert, so you might want to wait for more advice before trying anything i tell you. --it might be humidity. *on humid days my Playstation freezes up or won't play at all (i get the Memory Card screen). *there's not much you can do about that. *maybe turn a fan on, pointed at the PSx. --there might be dirt or dust inside the console. *unplug it, open it up, and check (not a very good idea-you could accidently make the problem worse) --the laser thingy might be sticking. *try turning the console upside-down and see if that helps. *sometimes when it won't work, i open the lid and give the laser thing a little nudge, which seems to loosen it up or something. *or, i just pick up one corner about a quarter-inch and let it drop; the impact seems to help. --it might be the game CD. *i can't help with that, and anyway i'm just guessing. *i've had my PSx for almost 6 years, and i bought it used. *it actually works better now than when i first got it. |
