Default ps1 memory

hi im new to this so i hope you can help.ive purchased a brand new ps1 [slim].ive purchased a memory card for it 24mb.when i put game in it says that there is no memory card.i have no manual with it so im trying to set it up with no knowledge of what im doing.can you help please.?? thank you.

I'll tell you right now, get rid of that memory card and try to find an actual PSone card from Sony. The majority of third party cards like that one are unlicensed (not approved by Sony) and the quality can be mediocre at best.

Considering you quote the card size in MB leads me to think you picked up a crap PS2 memory card by mistake. The PSOne doesn't go by file size- instead, it saves games in "blocks" and different games use a different amount of blocks (some only one, others up to 5 or more, depending on the size of the game).
