(check out the hall of fame HERE to find out what Random Rants is all about). Movies, specifically Hollywood movies, are my rant right now. I watched the original Star Wars last week. No ‘big” actors (except perhaps The late Sir Alec Guinness - Ford wasn’t in ‘Raiders’ until 81 – 4 years after) – and yet it still kicked major a$$. We have seen a lot of ‘teen movies’ whereby a lot of young actors are feverishly attempting to become part of some sort of neo brat-pack, the likes of which haven’t really been seen since St. Elmo’s Fire and The Breakfast Club. My point is why do the sorry a$$ people in charge ever use anybody other than the tried and tested anymore in big pics? Jeez, would Nicolas Cage even have appeared in the 1982 flick “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” if his uncle wasn’t Francis Ford Coppola? Sorry- sad a$$ chick flick – lets call Meg Ryan etc etc. All the ‘new people’ have still been in the industry and connected for over a decade. I’m getting bloody sick of it. Hi, my last name is Spelling – give me a TV show …………..f*ck off. Most big budget flicks spend a large % of the cash on ‘big name’ actors. Take any given genre and make it big – unfortunately we can’t do justice to the pic cus we had to pay Tom Cruise 20 mil for a cameo. Lord of the Rings – (aside from Christopher Lee, cus he’s hammerific, man with the golden gun skilltastic) – but why the need for people we have seen many times before? Surely it was the perfect platform to break the mold…………….obviously not. I’m surprised f*cking Tom Hanks wasn’t in it – he’s always on his hands and knees with his mouth open and his a$$ in the air for an Oscar nomination. Can we ever get back to script and storyline before Cameron Whoeaz or some other stick insect gets the role in a film that costs more than $10? I’m just v. peed off with decent books and scripts being rendered bollo*ks by the budget being spent on ‘names’, grrrrrrrrr

I agree Gid, there's some major talent out there that's being looked over for the "in thing". I mean, let's face it, most of these people, even the big name actors, are in this industry for as a career, therefore, we probably shouldn't knock the fellow or gal getting all the current flicks, buuut, we shouldn't miss the opportunity to find new talent because we're too afraid to try someone new and take the easy way out by paying the bucks for someone popular, (and probably not so good). There has been a few pictures ruinned by the use of a popular actor instead of a good one. (Can't think of any off hand at the moment, but I know I've thought this about some). This brings me to another thing I don't like about Hollywood flicks these days, I can't stand the fact that they are so afraid of finding some original screenplays. I get so very tired of seeing a remake of this or that film from the 60's or whenever. Don't get me wrong, I don't really mind watching them, as, for me anyway, they're better than the original for quality and such. Each time I see a remake come out though, I think to myself that some poor writer, with oodles of talent, has been brushed off with an excellent screenplay that'll probably never find it's way into the limelight because someone thought "Charlie's Angels" was actually more than eye candy. Anyway, I'd sure like to see more original stories come out, rather than using and reusing stories that've grown old.

No rant here, just agreeing with Gid. Personally, I think it helps when the actors are unknown (assuming they're any good at acting). When you've never seen them before, you don't have that image of whether they're a good guy, bad guy, funny guy etc. If you don't understand what I mean, just imagine Jerry Seinfeld acting as the Green Goblin in the Spiderman movie...... Would you be able to take him seriously?

How 'bout when a good new actor gets over-shadowed by special effects. Seen it happen too many times and getting tired of it. Why is it that computers need to be used for so many special effects? Alot of you probably have seen Ronin with Robert De Niro. Now in that movie a car spins its tires before speeding away in chase of another car. Well it looks like the director didn't or couldn't get the shot right naturally. So they used digital imagery to add smoke coming from the rear wheels and it looked like sh*t. Throw some bleach on the tires, drop the tranny into first and floor it. With the right timing you'll get your smoke, naturally... well almost.

Any idea why 15-18 year old boys have to go through this same weid ritual: 1: "stare-out" anyone who walks within 10 feet of them (thats about 3 metres for out metric friends). 2: This is usually followed by getting as much mucus from their lungs and spitting it on the ground in front of them, or alternativley emmiting a smaller high velocity version that needs to reach at least 6ft from them. 3: If not already smoking they then light-up and inhale as much smoke as possible, to prove they are a "real" man - even though they know it will make them "real" dead in a few years time. I feel sure this is the same routine all over the world... but why ?

Well being 16, and in the UK i suppose i should shed as much light on to this one as i can: 1) The stare out is (in my case) only done to people, who: A)I know, and know it annoy's them. B ) Basic instinct thing. He who stares longest is the dominente male. C)People who look 'odd' or D) those who look at us 15-18 year olds in a strange way first. 2) This is a basic instinct thing again. He who spits biggest/furthest is the dominate male. It is also for in later life when that job as top flight footballer comes around, and then every time a camera is on you, as you play, you gob. 3) I dont smoke, and never intent to, so can't coment.

Well, my rant has to do with ISPs. Recently, the one my family "chose" (hah!) was looted for around 1,000,000,000 dollars, which has apparently reduced the ability of the ISP to stay up for a stretch of time longer than 5 minutes. The costs have gone up, the service has gone down, and I can't switch! Why? Because if I want broadband, it's Adelphia or nothing! Grrrr....stupid monopolies.... Oh, and, hello again.

Fscking ignorant people who have no idea what they're talking about yet they know that you're wrong. First off, why ask me if you already fscking know the answer?! And if you're going to just say i'm wrong anyway, i may as well tell you to go fsck yourself, but of course that's not my nature! So, what is this rant about you ask? It's about people that come into my work......do you have "blah" in? I in turn tell them that it's not out......This makes sense to me since i have been gone for two days and personally don't know for sure yet and i'm not going to look yet as i'm not working yet......They then tell me "well i saw it over there on the shelf 5 mins ago....My favorite is when people argue release dates of games with me......Who would you believe? Me or someone else? I really have gotten tired of fscking ignorant bastards though. Well, i hope that you all enjoy posting and have fun gaming. "blah" - No point in naming it

My rant....The fact that life has seen it's way to make DC's life a god awful as possible.....If it is not enough that my business life has become "if-ee" at best...paying for a degree and education (which they have seen their way to raise tuition)...Personal life...(very confusing to say the least)... It all came to a head when a person I have known for 15+ years hangs themself in their backyard...(Please I do not wish any "I am sorry to hear thats" as kind as they are they would do nothing but drag me down right now) I realize that life has it's ups and downs, but DAM*, the "up" is eluding me, and has been for awhile now...... AHHHHHHHHHHHH

FREAKIN' TELEMARKETERS!!! Well now I am pi**ed off, last week a someone called to conduct a "survey". So I spent the 20 seconds she said it would take to do this "survey". It was on how I feel about the quality of air in my home and outside. She was very polite and pleasant sounding, so I thought it was a legitimate "survey". Later in the week I get a call asking about a "survey" that I took earlier in the week. I acknowledged that I had and she went on to tell me about how my name was drawn to receive a prize valued at $1500. She then went on about how I have a choice of a cruise to Hawaii or a flight to the Bahamas. She must have been confused by my reaction since I didn't say a thing. "Hello?" she said. This where I think she got pi**ed off. Since my reply was... "What do I have to buy?" She hung up on me!!! They have the nerve to call me at all hours, call me by wife's maiden name (the phone was in her name before we got married), then hang up on me! Really, people should find better things to do with their time.

The biggest p*sser about that whole thing Rex is that these morons get PAID FOR THAT!!!!!!!!! I don't think I'd keep my job if I were as rude to anyone!!! Sheeeeesh, the standards these days just keep getting lower and lower!!!!! I hate it when I get telemarketing calls on my phone line that is solely for my computer!!! I got this extra line for my puter only, and it has an unlisted number. I only RARELY use it for phone calls... like, I've used it to make calls TWICE!!!!!! But, I frequently get calls on here from telemarketers. (yes, I keep a phone hooked up to it too, for when I'm offline). I've started answering it with the name of some phony business, and then tell them that the owner is out of town and I don't have the authority to ok anything, but if they'd leave their name and number I'd be sure to leave him the message...... heh heh heh...... funny how those ones don't call back!

Yeah I know what you mean speedie. Our house gets so many calls from telemarketers so I decided to leave them a little message on our answering machine. "you've reached ******* we're not home right now so leave your name and number and we'll get back to you as soon as possible......unless you're trying to sell something in that case piss off!
|

Actually I prefer to do what you put on your answering machine Billy, If your not up front and honest with them they have no idea that you don't want what they are selling. I was quite proud of myself since usually I let them ramble on but this time I don't know what happened I was just fed up. I mean she was taking quality time away from me and my PS2!!! This is how you deal with a telemarketer... "Hello." as you always say when you pick up the phone. "Yes, I am calling to tell you about this amazing off... F*** OFF!!! Done and done.

Heh heh heh....... I actually did that once Rex..... only I didn't say "hello" and give the caller a chance to say anything first. The person called during dinner, and as we have caller ID, I saw that it was an "anonymous" call, which means someone I don't want to talk to, so I picked up the reciever, said " F*CK OFF!!!!!!" and hung up the phone! hehehehee...... Hubby and son looked at me as though I'd gone mad!! But, if you're mean like that, I find that it just encourages them to 'red flag' your name to remember to call back and harrass sometime when they're having a bad day. Trust me, I know this tactic, I used to be a telemarketer! IMHO, the caller ID's $5 a month is worth it to avoid all the calls that I don't want to take. If it comes up as "anonymous" but it's someone I'd want to talk to, if it's really important, they'll leave a message. Otherwise, "Fagettaboutit"!!

SPEEDIE! YEa i have fun with telemarketers all the time. At one point I pretended to have an Indian accent and yell at people across the room while this guy tried to sell me Time magazine. But your approach is hilarious! I have caller ID and its great. -My random rant is school. Now hear me out. School is worth it in many ways but Ive seen so many people and some of my friends fall into depression because of it. So much burden is placed on todays youth. I wake up with headaches every morning because I now I have a lot to do everyday. Today I have to put up flyers in different halls and stay after 6PM to organize a facilitation meeting that was moved from next tuesday to tomorrow!!! Man my teacher is a gaping @$$hole. But the only thing that gets me through it all is that I know it will be over. Ill finish putting up flyers and Ill finish doing my facilitation report wiht 2 others. -Well im glad i got it outta my system. This rant thread is great.

Yeah gene, the whole school thing is supposed to be stressful with exams and all (well, at least that's what i've heard Now, I passed those exams quite well, so it obviously got stuck in my mind that stress is unnecessary because 3 years later, I still don't stress. In fact, i'm so relaxed that people - i.e the people in my basketball team, and some of the people I work with - have asked me whether i'm on the "wacky tobaccy" , which I certainly am not. So my point is: Stress is good for you

My rant is again about phone callers, but it's more along the lines of people who SHOULD NOT, under any circumstances, EVER be allowed near phones!!!!! Got a phone call the other night, (about 9:00 pm) saw it was 'anonymous' and thought "Oh boy, fun with telemarketers!" Wrong! I answer "hello" and I get the reply 'who's this?' [b]DON'T CALL SOMEONE'S HOUSE AND ASK 'WHO IS THIS?'!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS SOOOOOOOOOOO RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you don't know who you are calling, STAY THE HELL OFF THE PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Well stress is good for you because if I stressed a little more, maybe I wouldn't be doing so badly at school. I'm in year 11 and I don't worry about tests or anything, and since I don't worry about them, I hardly ever study for them (and when I do, it's not very productive). And is it really a good thing if people think you smoke weed when you don't?

Hey Killa I have the same problem about the Weed thing. People think I smoke it but I have never tried it and never will. I just am kind of on the fence about the hole thing, you know? In my heart I know it isnt the best thing to do but it makes a lot more people have respect for you. SO I dont know what to do on that subject.
