[FONT=Courier][SIZE=7]If people played the game hitman too much do you think it would posess them to become real life assassins. I'm personally drawn to the game but I am surprised at how many times I "die". This would probably happen to me if I became a hitman in real life.

I think this is something akin to the game censorship that is going on, in that people (those tree-hugging, dolphin-kissing <strike> Gid </strike> you-know-whats) have some notion that games our kids play will turn them into something that they otherwise would not be, ie: IMBICILES! I don't happen to believe this is the case. I think that, whatever a person is going to turn out to be/be like, it's already pre-disposed, and no gaming is gonna make that much of a life-changing difference.
We've got a lot of young gamers in here, and yet I've never once heard anyone in here mention going out looking for their Uncle Cid to build them an airship so they can save the world, ya know what I mean!?

No.

I am not really sure what the question is asking... I think I know but not too sure.

I don't think that any game can turn the gamer into something that they are doing in the game... if that were the case I would be able to...

1. Disarm bombs
2. Have the ability and knowhow to kill without guilt, shame or remorse
3. Drive a race car
4. Fly a fighter jet

It's funny, I just saw a show on TV were they talked about how the military uses video games to make the soldiers less hesetating in killing others.
Some of you might have heard of a free online CS kind of game called "US ARMY" or something like that.

It apparantly is so that when rehersing a certain situation the brain will learn to act on instinct rather then on thought, who would have guessed.

I don't haowever belive that ordinary people will go out and kill anyone in sight JUST beacuse of a videogame.

That's Americas Army manne, apparently is a pile :P

I don't think any game has the ability to 'de-sensitise'(sp?) people ("...the military uses video games to make the soldiers less hesetating..."). I play GTA, a lot of Counter-Strike, and other such violent games without a problem, but an episode of E.R is just too much for me <_<

I don't know how people can think that (RE: "...the military uses video games to make the soldiers less hesetating...") because that's just ridiculous. There's a slight difference between virtually killing someone who doesn't exist with virtual weapons that don't exist in a virtual world that doesn't exist than killing someone in real life.

I read an article on America's Army and its intent was to identify people who had natural leadership and teamwork abilities.

As a professional hitman, I've only died twice. ( oh wait...did I type that out loud??) Y'know I think the media will always look for scapegoats. I remember them saying Steve McQueen was going to make us all drive fast because we watched Bullitt (OK maybe we did but those chase scenes were awesome). They tried to blame video games on Columbine and heck... Listen to what they say about music!!

I think deep down inside we all have a touch of common sense and truly know what right and wrong.

... besides... Just because I beat Diablo, Bael and the rest of the counsel, doesn't mean I'm waiting to see them in real life.

-Ok I'll go back to lurking and reading posts.

Killa:
I know, or rather belive, that games don't do any difference to an ordinary humans mind, but what I heard on that show did make some sense.
The army in it self doesn't use the Americas Army game for training, they use some kind of other simulator, or so the men on the show said.

The thing that the simulations trained was not actually killing but rather to stick your head out of the hole or round the wall.
Soldiers have always had a hard time doing this, mainly beacuse they know they might get shot in the head if they are unlucky.
In the games however you would benefit from not hiding and therefor the soldiers trained in it would be less hesitative in a similar RL situation.

I do belive that you can train a man or woman to become a better soldier by making them play games in wich you are constantly exposed to situations that require a behavior not "normal".

When it comes to the actual killing of the foe there are other ways to make a soldier pul the trigger without thinking twice.
