Default GTA4 online multiplayer guide

.

To access multiplayer in-game
  1. You must access your mobile phone by pressing Up on the directional pad.
  2. After choosing the Multiplayer option, press to accept
  3. Then, you have three options: Player Match, Ranked, or Party Mode
  4. There are 14 multiplayer games that you can choose from. Once you have chosen one, press so you can enter the multiplayer lobby.
Before playing a multiplayer game, you must go through the lobby which will serve as the meeting point for all of the players. While in the lobby, you can view the list of players that are competing; also, you may change modes and edit your character model options.

You can invite friends to join you in a multiplayer game, by using the in-game mobile phone. Look them up so you can call them.

Multiplayer Game Modes

Player Match – You will have separate leader boards for each modes, so your results here will not count in your overall GTA IV multiplayer ranking. For Custom Matches, you can reserve spots for your friends. Meanwhile, you may also invite some of your friends to join in a game that is currently in progress.

Ranked – For this mode, your rank will increase depending on how much player cash you win. Once you've earned a rank, you will be able to unlock more options for that character. However, unlike in Player Match, you cannot invite your friends to join in the game.

Party Mode (2-8 players) – You can use the in-game mobile phone to invite friends to play party mode with you. (For Xbox 360 users, you can do this through the Xbox LIVE). Once you've entered party mode, players will be in a “party area”. When a host chooses a game mode, all players will join in that game mode. If you are playing in team modes, two parties will be battling it out against each other. For competitive modes, the game is played like you normally would, the only difference being that it will involve players in the party. Other players can also join in, so long as there are still available slots.

General online info

Once the host and at least half of the players in the lobby are ready, then you can proceed from the lobby system. If you'd still want other players to join in, you can protest that you are still not ready to get the game going.

If you want to kick someone out of the game, then at least half of the lobby must manually boot that person. To view how many have already voted, you can go to the lobby and see the flashing icons next to each player's name. If you want to boot people in-game, then you can use the your mobile phone's phonebook to do that.

If you want your party to be exclusive within your friends, you can prevent strangers from joining in. To do this, you and your friends must play through the party mode. When playing in this mode, you will be able to restrict your team amongst only those that are in your party. Also, this mode enables you to play with other parties of similar size as yours.

If you want to invite friends to join you, you can do this in the lobby. Or if a game is already in progress, you can do that by using your mobile phone.

If you want to reserve private slots for your friends, then you must enter the Custom Matches. Or, if you want to be the host of the match, you can enter the custom match and set the private slots to > 0.

Multiplayer Mode Settings

Auto-aim is one feature in this game that is often misunderstood. One thing you must take note though is that this does not level the playing field. It does help to speed up the game though because you are able to focus your aim in a smaller area. But you will slow down the pace of the game if you turn off this feature. However, it will make melee combat, drive-bys, and sniper action more efficient.

It is best to request the location to be restricted within a smaller area (such as Prison, Docks, Charge Island, Colony Island, Airport, and Bohan), especially for beginners to GTA IV multiplayer. This will enable you to easily work your way around the area as compared to larger areas that can be a bit too much for new players.

Another feature in the GTA online experience that players might want to incorporate into their game is the blip settings. Adjusting the settings would be somewhat similar to adjusting the game's difficulty level, say you change All to Leader, Near, or Far. However, it is best to use a time limit (rather than point limit) if you should choose to play Near or Far.

If any of the opposing players try to dominate the in-game chat by raising the noise level, it is best to use the proximity voice chat setting. If you have to talk trash with any of your opposing players across the map, you can easily call them via your in-game mobile phone.

For the non-cooperative modes, it is extremely money based. Hence, the team or player with the most money will be declared as the winner. For games with time limit, those with the most money when the time expires will be the winner. For games with point limit, those who reach or surpass the point limit first will be declared the winner.

You will have 10 levels of achievement in this game. You will unlock more options for clothing and characters whenever you get one.

Taunts – If you want your character to taunt the opposing players, you can press L1.

If you want to speak with some of your friends while playing the modes, you can. One-on-one conversation is even allowed, all you need is that in-game mobile phone and you can call them anytime you desire.

When playing in Player Match mode, you can use your in-game mobile phone to vote for the upcoming game.

It is possible for you to set waypoints for your teammates in vehicles.

Whenever a player takes cover or crouches, their gamertag will disappear.

Mustang, you are either not signed in to PSN on your PS3 or you haven't set up a PSN ID yet. Once you check this and then start the game you should be able to play.
