I have heard that a new smaller version of PS2 slim should be released! This one should be the same size but a little lighter and withe a intern power source. Anyone knowes when it will be released! /Johan

Taking a look at some planned releases for the PS2, there is no evidence of the new version being released for at least the next few months, if not longer. Like Lyn said, Sony seem to be too busy in other areas, manufacturing-wise..
I remember the speculation though, it was only planned to be a few MM smaller, so no big deal there, and of course the internal power supply and a slightly lesser weight. I see it as a revision of the Slimline version not a completely new version itself, so i wouldnt dwell on it too much if it does indeed never leave japanese shores...

I suppose this was a plan by Sony to re-generate the PS2 market for the last couple of years of its 'lifespan'. So, it makes sense in a way to bring out a new model. Personally i think, if one isnt brought out this year, then there wont be another PS2 model in the future.

To regenerate the PS2 market for the last few years of its time being manufactured. In short, Sony are trying to squeeze all of the money out of the console that they can, before production stops and there isnt a market left for, PS2 hardware in particular.

Yes i can get that, but what is the point of people actually wanting it now. I mean, I am quite sure that game development will totally die on it.

Also I got the impression that the OP has a ps2 and woud be interested in the new version. That is what I dont understand why.

Erm well, many people may be looking for a new one, due to a recent failure or something. Believe it or not, there are still people out there who have not got a PS2 and will be interested in buying one. It sounds a long shot of course, but Sony are trying to grab the last batch of customers that they can i suppose... It will be these people who are most likely to buy a new version.
There's always a market for this kind of product, however small...

I am sure they know what they are doing at the end of the day. Just sounds abit silly
