Default Will helping a friend hurt my PS3 ?

One of my very good friends is purchasing a 60 Gig PS3 via E-Bay. It is brand new in the box so ergo not updated. He doesn't have broadband yet and I was wondering if I hook it up to my connection to update him, will it have any adverse effects on my PS3 inre using my ISP address for his system as well.

As soon as I get him updated he will take his home and play offline and I will continue to have mine hotwired for online play. I just want him to have the graphics updates and such for his PS2 titles, but not at my expence.

No, it will not do anything adverse to his PS3 at all. However, there is an alternative. You could also download the update onto a USB thumb drive and simply use that to update his PS3.

All you need to do is make a folder on the thumb drive called PS3- inside this, put another folder called UPDATE. Then, place the downloaded firmware update in the UPDATE folder. When you go to System Update, choose "update via external device" and the PS3 will see the update and run it.

I should have done this a bit sooner but I am going to put a link to the latest version (2.35) into the Free PS3 Downloads right now- you can grab the update directly from there.
