| My question is simple. Why should I spend 100€ more for the PS3 version 60Gb? Is it quicker? What are the diferences between the two versions? ![]() |

| Basically the extras you get with the 60GB version are:
That is it ! If you already have wireless Internet at home, own a PSP and want to be able to use the same kind of memory cards you use in a digital camera to allow you to swap game saves with your friends then the 60GB version makes sense. If all you want to do is play the games and possibly the movies then you should just get the 20GB version. You can upgrade the hard drive later to a huge one if you need more space. We have heard rumours that there may be a few extras in the 60GB pack like a voucher for a free Blue Ray movie, remote control, headset or something similar, but we are waiting for Sony to let us know for sure. | Tip on HDD upgrades. When the PS3 finally comes out & you feel the need to upgrade the 20 or 60 gig HDD there are many options of which the first one I hope everyone pays close attention. 1. Another rumor going around the press sites is that the PS3 will only come with 6 months warranty due to the blue ray technology and practically every single loose or removeable component inside the PS3 will have a "warranty void if removed" sticker applied to them. Therefore the upgrading the HDD yourself could void your warranty straight away. But 6 months to fill up a 20 or 60 gig HDD you must be on 24/7 2. HDD spin speeds & access. Don't buy cheap & don't buy flashy expensive looking HDD. There are spin speeds (RPM revolutions per minute) and they can start from 4,800 going up through 5,200, 7,200 (a standard in IDE PC HDD) and then up to a good 10,000. There are some doing 12,400 but that is only idle speed and not access rate. And of course the faster it spins the more hotter it will get and there isn't room to attach a HDD cooling fan plate to the bottom when putting inside a PS3. My preference IF I was going to upgrade would be a more stable maker like Samsung or Maxtor with 160gig, 7,200rpm & 8-16meg cache |

| Chris N: That's all fine providing Sony don't pull a fast one and make sure that you can't implant your own hardrive in it. If they screw it so that you can only put a Sony branded drive in, then you're better off just buying the 60GB version from the outset. I'm holding my cash in my pocket until I find out about this particular area... |

| They've made it very simple to put your own larger capacity 2.5" Serial ATA drive in- they even give how-to instructions in the quick reference guide. Simple matter of removing a screw and gently pull the thing out, replace the drive in the mount and reinsert. the drive will format automatically when you start the system up again. You can use any brand you prefer. The main decider for which version to get should be if you plan on going online wirelessly or through ethernet cable attached to your router. I'm doing the latter so i went with the 20 GB model- had no immediate use for the memory card slots under the flap either. No sense paying out extra for stuff that won't be used. |

| Excellent. That must have been a piece of news that skipped past me then Still, I think i'm heading towards the expensive package for all the other bits, but it's handy to know that we can shove a bigger drive in if we need to. I've still gotta wait till March though, being in the UK (damn you and your waiting times Sony!) |
