Thumbs down Rule of Rose - UK version

in conjunction with Lyndon's news post PS2 - Rule Of Rose Cancelled In UK/ Europe & Australia I was one on the lucky few to own a UK copy of the game as it was released & then pulled at the last minute. Now playing the game I can't for the life of me find out 1 major reason why this game got canned, pulled or even to say banned at the very last minute but for one minor reason. The game just plain sucks. Hyped up as the next Silent Hill you take control of the main character Jen into a bizzare & sometimes confusing initiation of a sect of children whose idea of fun is to kidnapp, tie up, torture and general bullying of there own order. I found that other games, oooooo lets take Bully (canis cadem edit) are far worse than this. Control is a joke, no freedom, no clues of what to look at or pickup but only from your "bucket head knights" which act as game saves as well. Loading times are a reminder of Resident Evil, where every single door you open your subjected to seconds of loading only to find out that the room you have just entered is a dead end or hold no clues or items. the concept of the game isn't quite fresh but I've got to put my hand up and say there is a game soundtrack that rivals Silent Hill for god damn hair pricking scary shocks and the structure of the story is quite boring, apart from discovering your fate you have to find & present a gift to the red rose to keep it happy or you will be killed.

I'm glad in a way it's turned out to be another "Thrillkill" investment but I got so bored after 4 hours gameplay (most of it was loading times) I went back to the old faithful Resident Evil 4 & Bully

I'm a person who has a very broad mind and can tell when things are too much even if a rating system has failed. There are a lot more violent games out there than this game is many different was. I can't for the life of me think why didn't they "re-write" part of it like Konami did with Silent Hill on the PS1. USA & JAP version of the game is different to the UK & European release, when you get into the school there are sort of children with knives trying to kill you. This hit a nerve in the UK and the game was banned but Konami re-wrote the code of the child character & made it into a little demon with claws. Only took and extra 3 months added on the UK release date but saved a hell of a good franchise.
