Default Watched any Blu-Ray Movies Yet?

Watched any Blu-Ray movies yet? I am watching SAW III tonight (Not pictured), and it looks pretty darn good. Let me tell you, from the first hour I have seen of the movie, I can see that it is Very, Very gory... in case you were wondering. But, that's what I expect in a SAW movie

So, have you gotten a chance to see any of the Blu-Ray movies that
are out now? I have noticed that they are hard to find in certain stores. Particularly weird is the fact that Walmart isn't stocking them yet. THE WALMART. I don't know what that's all about. The good thing is, I've got a Netflix membership () and I can rent whatever Blu-Rays I wanna see.

Just wondering if anyone else has jumped onto the Blu boat yet.

Blue-Ray Vs HD-DVD?

Gamestation in the UK are now stocking a huge selection of HD-DVD movies, people like HMV & Virgin are dueling between the 2. But in the UK it looks like the old betamax vs vhs & DVD+ vs DVD-. Blu-Ray needs to drop fast in price as HD-DVD players are popping up in the £180 range against £700 for a Blu-Ray Player.

Personally I can't see much difference between the both formats

As for Saw III - not gory at all, even the unrated version, boring story line that has been done before, no suspence, no shock tactics. It started & finished with the first film, seeming it was only going to be a direct to DVD release the distribution company took a gamble to release a film for Halloween time & it paid off for a sleeper film.

Just have to wait until HD movies are produced in HD (e.g. Star Wars 2 & 3) to get the full pleasure out of it.

Sorry, I considered a man slamming a concrete block on his foot while another man gets a power drill in his skull 5 times to be gory.

Maybe I am mistaken.

Take a look at Guinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh and Blood

Forget the others in the 6 film series, this one is the business. Japanese Film with English Subtitles

Is it real or not?

I agree, it is pretty sick, I think if you are a person with no soul you will like the movie, lol.

I guess the only people watching Blu-Rays are probably PS3 owners anyway, I can't see anyone buying a Blu-Ray player at there current prices.

Haven't checked out any Blu-Ray movies yet but i will eventually. I have X-Men: the Last Stand here for a day I get some extra time to watch it.

Most likely I won't be buying too many- the main reason i bought the PS3 was the gaming.

I was watching Casion Royale on the new Sony VIAO V21 laptop/PC Hybrid. I was like a child in a toyshop before Christmas. The New HD Screen & Blu-Ray Burner/Player was just spot on. Speakers from the laptop were much better than any I've listen to. Hi spec, sexy thin looks & true 100% HDMI output & HD screen. The laptop lid/screen opens like a laptop, but with a press of a button it swivels out & back to rest like a PC monitor so it can be used as a fully functional PC & has High end graphics card. Built in HD web cam & finger print scanner, 2gb memory, 250gig HD, wireless, bluetooth, evey thing you can think of & Windows Vista in full effect. Hot keys for your general stuff, plus Sony Network Walkman ones & a PSP/PS3 key, no idea what that was for, even the salesman wouldn't tell me, I suspect it's and uplink for the systems. The price was a bit much £2200 and it wasn't the top model.

The assistant asked me to rub of the drool & wipe the finger marks of afterwards

Oh the film looked great!!

Thumbs up Re: Watched any Blu-Ray Movies Yet?

I watched "Stranger Than Fiction" (Will Ferrell movie where he hears a voice narrating his life. Yep. It actually was released in theaters ) on Blu-ray the other night.

The movie gets a 4 out of 5 rating from me. It wasn't as comedic as I expected it to be, but that seems to be the new thing comedic actors are doing these days... serious movies. So of course it wasn't as good as... gosh there hasn't been a funny Will Ferrell movie in a while. Anyway, lets just say it isn't so much a funny movie. It's more of a dramedy.

As far as sound quality, it was great, uncompressed Dolby surround sound Thumbs up for that.

The picture quality was great as well. I found myself to be a little too close to the screen, because I was amazed by the quality. Leaps and bounds over DVD quality.

I am happy with Blu-ray so far. One feature I have not really put to a whole lot of use, but is very cool, is the "Always available" menus. Basically, you have picture menus "Always available" during the movie, and you can press the square button (I think it is - maybe circle) to bring them up without pausing playback. They hover on-screen, and allow you to do all the things like skip chapters, or view extras, without having to exit to a DVD main menu. That's a vast improvement.

I'm sure that eventually Blu-ray machines will become affordable for all people, and I am confident that this format of movies will survive. Whether it kills off HDDVD or not, it is probably to early to tell. I just know that I like what they have done with the format so far, and I can't wait to see what else they plan to do with it. I am sure that there is a lot more capacity to work with, and that that will make for more innovative features. Gosh... I just realized they could make neato movie-themed games that you could play with your ps3 controller (And eventually the Blu-ray controller that comes with your blu-ray only player)!

Alrighty then. I'll keep my eyes out for some more new blu-rays to check out. Hopefully you'll take a moment to rent some too. The prices are, admittedly, a bit too high to be buying them right now. That is, unless you really like the movie that is on Blu-ray.

I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and gotta say, it was pretty impressive. It was a Netflix rental as well. I don't know anyone who's been able to justify the cost of buying.

As for the Saw movies. I'd have a hard time watching that stuff in black & white. You're a brave soul.

Saw III was pretty sick !!!! I enjoyed the movie though. Has anyone watched Hostel ! now that is a scary movie .
I have only watched the free blu-ray casino royale you get with registering the PS3, i have Open season , but i havent a chance to watch it as im waiting on ma New or repaired PS3....

Yeah there are some really great functions on the Blu-Ray.

Blu-ray should win, well i Hope, everything will come down in price eventually, (PS3, Blu-Ray dvd players), and then hopefully more shops will stock them, and people will buy them, as YEAH they are pretty hard to find !!!!!

My main source of Blu-Ray material for the moment is the Playstation Official Magazine-UK, which released Issue 7 today, (the first to include a Blu-Ray disc), every issue from today onwards should contain a Blu-Ray disc with the magazine. Not bad for £6.00.

Surely by now some of you have purchased Blu-ray movies or at least rented them. Now's the time to do it, there are a lot of X-Mas sales happening for Blu-ray movies, so long as you are quick to catch them. I took advantage on one right before it ended (Otherwise, I would have posted a link to it here - I will post any good Blu-ray deals I see as they arise) on Amazon. They had a Buy-one Get-one Free deal on select movies. I purchased 300 and The Departed (Seen 300 already, liked it, want to see it again... and hey, it was free anyway. The Departed I am really late on seeing, but I know it's gonna be great).

Last week I purchased Ratatouille Blu-ray. I am a Pixar junkie, and this movie did not disappoint at all. It was beautiful, I must say. I need to get around to watching all of the special features later this week, there are a lot of them to check out. I recommend it to Pixar/Disney/Rat fans everywhere.

Now, tell me you love Blu-ray as much as I do. What have you seen lately?

I have bought and watched one blue ray movie so far. It was House of the flying Daggers.
Great movie!!!! With my bose speakers and tower speakers I couldn't believe
how great it sounded!
I played it on my PS3........

There are many movies out on that format but I am not in a hurry to get anymore until the prices come down a little.

I agree, they still cost a lot right now, which is why I jumped on the buy one get one free deal. I will pick and choose what I buy, it certainly isn't as impulse as say - buying a DVD off the shelf. With DVD's you can kind of expect what the price is going to be, with Blu-ray's, you've gotta jump on those sales.

I'm sure they'll start coming down a little in '08. They have to if they want to dominate over the competing formats.

But, I don't want to be the guy still buying VHS tapes in 2008, so I am most certainly embracing the new formats, the sound and picture quality are spectacular. I only hope I get some new A/V equipment this X-Mas that makes my PS3 experience better next year. Currently I have to switch between 720p and 1080i every time I go to watch something else on the PS3. Don't ask why...

I deleted your first post Worf as I presumed you had made a mistake so retyped the post.
You could have just clicked on the Edit button to er quickly edit your post. It would have been easier than writing it out again.
Anyway, like I said, I went ahead and deleted the post as I presumed you wanted rid of it. Remember that you can edit your posts next time, ok?
