Red face

One of the most famous metal magazines Kerrang, has joined forces with Guitar Hero publisher RedOctane in a search for gamers favorite-ever guitarists.

Kerrang has decided to run this worldwide poll in conjunction with its annual "Sultans of String" where the world's army of metal heads collaborates to name who they believe is their ultimate guitar hero. The Kerrang editorial team has developed this shortlist of 10 world class guitarists;

1. Tony Iommi, Black Sabbath.
2. Angus Young, AC/DC.
3. Dimebag Darrell, Pantera/Damageplan.
4. James Hetfield, Metallica.
5. Slash, Guns 'N'Roses/Velvet Revolver.
6. Kerry King, Slayer.
7. Matt Bellamy, Muse.
8. Matt Heafy, Trivium.
9. Tom Morello, Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave.
10. Jimmy Page, Led Zepplin.

Without a doubt it is a seriously star-studded list, so to help the decision along Kerrang has profiled each guitar god in this months issue. To metal heads this is the "Batman vs. Superman" or "Super Smash Bros." of metal. Dave Noble from RedOctane believes "This will be the ultimate rock-off," "10 of the best guitarists in the world, in a vote organized in association with the best guitar game in the world. It's the perfect combination – and a question which will certainly get the nation thinking." An extra incentive for voters is the chance to win a Gibson SG Faded guitar or one of 25 copies of Guitar Hero.

The crowd will certainly hush to a whisper as the Kerrang "Sultan of String" and also Red Octane's "Ultimate Guitar Hero" is announced in the coming month.
