| Activision have released a statement stating the likely prices of the first batch of PS3 games. In a presentation to the Merrill Lynch Media and Entertainment Conference yesterday, Robert Kotick (Activision's CEO) stated that his company is taking a similar approach to the PS3 game pricing as they did with the XBOX360 when it was released last year. Kotick apparently stated, "We have not seen a lot of consumer resistance at the higher price points and we expect that all of our next-generation products will be launched at $60 price points." Since the XBOX360 launched last year, some publishers have defended the price of next-gen games stating high development costs as the reason for increased retail pricing. Kotick kind of backed up this argument by stating that his company has, apparently, spent $35million on Spiderman 3. Although he did not confirm which platforms the game will appear on. "That is the most expensive product that we've created, and for good reason," Kotick said. "You'll see how much it really takes advantage of the assets and the capabilities of the hardware." So it looks like we'll be looking at $60 games from the start. No price for European releases were mentioned at all during the interview. |
