A recent listing on Gamestop's web site may have let some news out a bit early. They have recently put up a page for a silver-color slimline PS2 priced at $129.99 US (the same as the black model). The silver PlayStation 2 has been available in Europe and Japan since 2005.

The listed price gives players the basic system with one controller. The date given on the page is October 24/ 06, just in time for the start of holiday shopping and a mere 3 weeks before the launch of the PlayStation 3. As of yet Sony has not confirmed the listing so it's possible Gamestop jumped the gun or are mistaken. The fact that it is listed should not be taken as confirmation.
