Default PS3 - HDMI 20GB model

Sony President Ken Kuturagi casually dropped a bombshell during a Q&A session after the companies Press Conference.

During the session, he casually revealed that the 20GB version of the PS3 WILL in fact have a High-Definition Mutimedia Interface (HDMI) port.

This will please gamers who were only wanting to buy the lower end model, because they will now be able to benefit from a true high-definition experience.
Gamers, and movie watchers, will now be able to view games and movies in the high end 1080p, which, as Sony have previously revealed, is TRUE High-Definition.

Kuturagi also revealed a lower price for the 20GB mdoel than previously expected. The 20GB model will now cost 49,980 yen (about $429) when it's released on November 11. The price is about 10,000 yen (about $85) less than the initial pricing, whioch was given as 60,000 yen (approx $515).

No price drop has been announced for the high end 60GB model which is currently priced as $599 in the US.
However, there is still no definite price for the 60GB model in Japan, leading to speculation that Sony will leave the pricing up to the retailers. This could lead to retailers essentially asking for whatever price they desire. Although it seems unlikely that people would pay anything, you have to take into consideration that Japan will only be getting 100,000 units on the release day. Of that amount, about 70,000 will be high end 60GB models.

Will the Japanese people be willing to pay ANY amount to get their hands on a PS3 come launch day?
We'll just have to wait until that day rolls round to see what happens.

Roll on November 11.

On a slightly apologetic note, Sony's President apologised for the delays in production of the PS3 console, stating that the company’s "new approaches and ways" were to blame, but were now being overcome.
