Some might be thinking the jump in price to $60 US for PlayStation 3 games is a bit much after seeing the prices of PS2 games. Consider yourselves lucky, folks, gamers in Japan have to dig a bit deeper.
According to Japanese journalist Munechika Nishida and his "multiple sources" Japanese gamers may be paying ¥8,800 ($75 USD) and ¥9,800 ($85 USD) per game. This rise in price is being blamed on increased development costs.
According to his article third party support is lagging as well so Sony may switch to a "traditional busines model" and sell the console at a lower price hoping to make the profit on software sales.
So what does this mean for us gamers outside of Japan? Hopefuly nothing seeing as we aren't getting the price drop announced in Japan for the lower end model PS3.
