So, how much are you willing to pay for Sony's Next Generation Console? $500? $750? $1000? It seems that the auction site ebay has been inundated with sellers trying to offload their pre-ordered PS3 consoles at inflated prices. The average price for a console off of ebay is currently around the $1500 mark. Some people have managed to get more than 1 pre-order in, which will guarantee them more than one console. An example of this is an ebay member, Dubamoinc, who states, "I waited in line at GameStop this morning (10/06/2006) and i am the number one person on the pre-sale list which means i am guranteed a PS3 on november (sic) 17th 2006. I have 4 pre-orders in and I am guranteed (sic) ALL of them that day". This is just one of many, who are willing to part with their pre-orders to make a small fortune. Economically speaking, you can understand their reasoning behind such a move, but with so few PS3's available at launch, why were people able to pre-order more than one console, and, more importantly, selling their pre-orders online ruins it for other people who didn't manage to get one. Personally, I think ebay should ban practices like this, but, as long as ebay is making money, they don't care what gets sold. On another note, one seller is hoping that they will somehow make a massive fortune. The person has apparently put a Buy-It Now price on a PS3 pre-order rumoured to be $100,000. If anyone chooses to buy it at that price then they are either VERY rich, VERY desperate, or more than like both. So if you desperately want a PS3 at launch, and have an extra $1000 laying around the place (that could actually be put toward a half-decent HDTV to play your PS3 on) then head over to ebay. Ebay, definitely the sellers site... Jason F Staff

This saddens me... it really does, because imo, that's not what ebay is for. Although I'm not one to camp/farm the PS3 i will have to wait it out like the millions of others that didn't get a pre-order in... it also puts further question onto the instance of those people that managed to get more than one pre-order. All in all, i hope the rumor is false concerning ebay's 100,000$ fortune maker =( i'm going to sit back and see what comes of ebay and sony after a few weeks of release. Hopefully no-one brings 'em down for the multi-pre-order's or the fortune makers. Not knowing the full story i can't say too much (for fear of making a fool of myself), so for now I will wait.

In all likelihood that particular auction got cancelled as did many other PS3 auctions. eBay's put in place a few safeguards to lessen the chances of scammers there, requiring a certain amount of transaction and feedback as well as no "Buy it now". Also, the only method of payment allowed is paypal (which eBay owns) and those funds are held until proof is given via a tracking number the system was shipped. BTW, Taksy, did you happen to look at the date on Jason's article there? this was somewhat old news. ![]()
