International Data Group, a publisher of numerous tech magazines and trade show organizer, has announced they will be producing a new gaming-related show. The location? E3's old home, the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The name of the show will be the GamePro Expo (the gaming magazine GamePro is one of their properties) and will be held in October 2007. Michael Prouse, vice president of convention sales for the LA Convention and Visitors Bureau, says IDG estimates approximately 30,000 visitors for the first show and could easily grow over the long term.
The show will have trade show, consumer and competition elements and is being marketed to Convention and Visitors Bureau members as an event which could surpass E3 in size eventually.
This ties in with former ESA exec Mary Dolaher and her staff to IDG earlier this week. Rumors are already flying as to attendees but nothing confirmed yet. Confirmation of this event closely follows word from the Consumer Electronics Association that it would not be producing a consumer electronics show in LA in 2007.
