Online British bookmakers, Paddy Power, is now taking bets on what game will hold the top slot over the christmas period.
The current favourite is EAs Need For Speed Carbon currently priced at 8-to-13. If that game DOES end up topping the christmas charts, as expected, then EA will complete a hat-trick. Last year their Need For Speed title, Most Wanted, topped the christmas charts and two years ago, it was Underground 2 that sold the most copies of any game over the christmas period.
If you fancy trying your luck on some other games then take a look at the odds of the games touted as possibilities to top the xmas charts:
FIFA 07 (4/1)
Gears of War, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, Eragon (All 10/1)
Guitar Hero II (25/1)
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (33/1)
Bratz: Forever Diamondz (80/1)
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Party Edition (250/1)
"We take a lot of money on Christmas specials and this is a popular market with the customers every year." said Sharon McHugh, Paddy Power marketing manager.
She then went on to say, "Very often a game like Superman will do well, if the movie has done well, so Eragon could be a bestseller if the box office does well and the kids like it enough to buy the game."
Now, as a family orientated site, Absolute Playstation does not endorse gambling of any kind. However, a one off flutter of a couple of pounds could be a nice way of earning back some of that money you spent on xmas pressies.
I personally recommend, however, that you don't spend more than a fiver, tops, as gambling is, as they say, "a mugs game".
