The never- ending battle between Take Two Interactive and Florida lawyer Jack Thompson continues.
Recently Thompson threatened to file action in an attempt to prevent the release of upcoming games Manhunt 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV, citing them as a "public nuisance" under Florida law.
Soon after this, however, Take Two Interactive filed a countersuit to block his attempts, saying allowing him to do this would infringe on Take Two's first amendment rights. This was felt necessary by them because "Thompson has a history of making multiple threats of legal action, whether substantiated or not, both against (Take Two) as well as the retailers who purchase the video games and offer them for sale to the public. Thompson has made such threats again in connection with Manhunt 2 and GTAIV…". They also hope to recover legal costs incurred during this.
Thompson soon responded to the suit by filing a writ with the Florida court criticizing the suit and trying to take come credit for a shareholder revolt within Take Two. He wrote, "So successful has Thompson been in exposing the fraud and criminal conduct of Take-Two on the national stage… that a corporate coup by 46% of Take-Two’s shareholders is set for March 23, which nearly all financial analysts… are predicting will be successful and which will result in the firing of all Take-Two management and the entire board…".
On Saturday afternoon he also e-mailed several media outlets with a promise to strike back, saying " I have been praying, literally, that Take-Two and its lawyers would do something so stupid… that such a misstep would enable me to destroy Take-Two…" as well as "The pit Take-Two has dug for itself will be patently clear next week when I strike back."
